I was told by my manager today that another co-worker was getting a promotion that was available at our office. I was sort of surprised by this as I have been lead to believe for 3 years that when the position became available I would get it. (A little work history, I have worked for the company for almost 10 years. I have advanced up through the company with no problems before. I have worked at 4 different locations within the company and have been at this location for the last 3 years.) A co-worker, we will call Teresa, has been with the company for roughly 3 years and is younger. She is about 25 and I'm 40. She is always underfoot, and everyone can see her kissing up to the manager. Well, today I was told that I was being passed over this time but that I haven't done anything wrong and I do a great job. Also, I was advised that I had the better knowledge of the job and I was appreciated. Well, I asked why the decision was made in this matter and what I could do for future advancements. This is was my manager said, "You have been going through alot for awhile now and I know you have been having hormone issues and that they have changed your meds. I just feel that your attitude has changed." What?? I asked if I had been rude, a (edit), or any other number of things. I was told no. You do a great job, it's just you don't have the same attitude as before this started. My manager is a woman and she is roughly 10 years older than I am. I was shocked by this. She insisted that I was to understand her side of the decision but I just cannot swallow this. I work hard and I work hard at handling the symptoms of menopause. I feel so confused and cheated. Well, I just needed to vent but I can't see how this is an valid reason to get booted.

Agree w/ Wildchild - furious + legal counsel

Also, many companies have a grievance procedure structure in place. You might want to speak to your supervisor's boss and explore that.

One last... document! If you havn't done so already, write down the details you posted here, date them etc. Esp the comments by your spvisor re: hormone issues.

    Good luck.

It is good to get responses back on this one. I agree about the grievance procedure. I laid in bed last night thinking on that. There is a policy at work and I'm going to rescearch on that today. I have never been one to cause any waves on anything, but I feel that my rights have been voilated. I did confine to my manager, in genereal conversation that I was being treating for menopause when I started medicine about 10 months ago. I now feel she is using this against me. I honestly I'm worried how to act at work now. I don't know how I was so different then I am now. I can say I am probably not as talkative but not to the point of non-social. I don't know, I have never been more confused. I now have to control all the emotions inside due to the menopause effects and then worry about if I'm ? . I don't know the word to put there because I don't know what it is. Projecting a mean, happy, sad, angry, or just plain confused.

You most certainly have cause. I wouldn't wait. If you have an EEO then they need to have all the info right away. Copies of performance evalutations, etc. They will need all this for their investigation.
