    Default Pilonidal Cysts?

Yesterday, I was fine all day until I sat down at one point and felt a sharp pain around my tailbone. I thought I just bruised it, until I felt a lump. By the evening, it gave me excruciating pain if I applied any kind of pressure to the lump. I went to the doctor today about it, and turns out I have a Pilonidal cyst. What that is is basically an abscess right around the tailbone/crack area. Not so fun. He prescribed a strong antibiotic and recommended hot compresses. (Its not big enough to have to do surgery...Thank the lord).
Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? I would really appreciate the input. Thanks guys. :-)

I was actually diagnosed with Chronic Pilonidal Cysts 2 years ago. The same thing happened to me.. I had that sudden pain on my tailbone one day and just thought I bruised it working out at the gym or something.. but then the next day I noticed more of a small pimple like bump there.. I had no idea what was going on. I let the pain for another day or so until I felt that it was something more serious than just a pimple. I went to the doctors and that day it actually burst.. I know sounds gross but believe me, what pressure and pain did that release. I don't know if you experienced this but I'm not going to lie, it's not pretty. But from what the doctor told me, once it drains (if it does on it's own) then the pain will go away. Apparently you can be born with what they call a "sacred dimple" which is a little pinhole in your crack area where these cysts can "nest". People can either choose to have surgery where the surgeons actually cover this "sacred dimple" up, so nothing can get in there and what not, or if it's not that serious and you don't mind dealing with this issue you can just make sure you keep it clean and what not.. with me, my doctor said I'm likely to "flare up" again and gave me the two options I mentioned. As year or two went by and nothing happened.. no pain nothing. BUT now I am facing the same problem again but no lump, just drainage which apparently is completely normal. This drainage that I'm talking about it just a clearish color.. not enough to actually seep through my clothing or anything which I'm lucky with.. so I called my doctor and let her know what was going on. She asked if it was foul smelling or a yellow or green color and I told her no. She said to come back in for antibiotics if this occurred because that would mean it's infected.. thank goodness it's not. I've also noticed it bleeding now.. which is another good sign or no infection..

sorry for all the information but I actually came on this site to see if anyone else experienced this as well. I found a site just for people with this issue if you want to check it out (pilonial) but just be aware some of the stories people tell are the WORST that can happen, it taught me a lot and I'm glad I read up on it since it's something I'm going to have to deal with for the rest of my life but try not to freak yourself out about it if you're not in the position to have surgery!
