Im with you.
I can't imagine not doing it. I'm "UBER" healthy around that - I'm a smoker who runs! I'm a running smoker! Does anyone have "holistic" ways of quitting??? keep in mind that I don't really think that I'm ready to... and yes, I know that it's horrible, so bashing me won't help.... grrrr.![]()
Im with you.
☮“I am convinced that the women of the world, united without any regard for national or racial dimensions, can become a most powerful force for international peace and brotherhood.”☮
grrrrr - you sure are not alone. One of the smartest, healthiest and mentally tough guys I've ever known fought that for years before finally beating it. Lots of my family members, loved ones etc etc. too Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known - the addiction aint your fault!
Ok, resources. Don't know about holistic ways to help, but the American Lung Assoc has tons of help on their website. Almost any state in the U S has links on their website pointing to lots of options. U.S. Public Health Service, U S Centers for Disease Control have great links. Here in Virginia, the Health Department has a "Quit Now Virgirginia" link on the home page ( the w's then virginia dot vdh dot gov)
If ya want more, p.m. me and I'll get specific links to ya.

Actually, running is probably one of the best things you can do if you smoke. Don't beat yourself up. And don't bother trying to quit until you're absolutely fed up with it and totally over it, or it won't happen.
Try reading Alan Carr's 'The Easy Way to Quit Smoking'. I know people who have had success with that. Basically, you can only quit when you truly want to.
Google 'The Mad Russian'. He's in Brookline. It's worth a shot. I know a couple of people that have went to him, for both smoking and non smoking related issues.
Friendship Prayer
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch.
Amen
Whoever said anything was possible obviously never tried slamming a revolving door.
My dad, brother, and boyfriend were all very heavy smokers (my dad and brother smoked at least a pack a day or more for 30 years). They all tried quitting a number of times, but the only way they were able to do it was just cold turkey, when they were really ready to quit. No patches, no nicotine gum.. just quit.
I can't say I've been there.. I never took up smoking, but I've seen how hard it is to quit! Best of luck to you, and I'm happy you're at least starting to think about quitting! You might not be there yet, but when you are there are lots of resources out there to help you kick the habit!
Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I quit, more than once. But it's been 25 yrs now. I just threw them away and didn't do it anymore. The thing is you have to decide to do it. Not try, not taper off, just decide and do it.
You may have to quit drinking for a while too. Nothing messes up quitting smoking faster than a couple of drinks.
Break your patterns. When do you usually smoke? Start doing something different. It's partially habit and association, break that connection.
We can only learn to love by loving. - Iris Mudoch, British writer
Truth is, unless and until you're ready, it won't happen. I had quit for close to 7 years before I started again.
My dad quit cold turkey (actuall frozen turkey). When we were young, we used to go to my grandparents for Sunday dinner and afterward he and my grandfather would go into the living room, have a smoke and watch football. One day my dad accidentally fell asleep with a smoke in his hand. Burned down to his fingers. After a few choice words he said that that was enough. Never had a smoke since.
Like WC, I just decided "eck....gross"...finished the pack and didn't buy anymore. Even though I'd tell myself "nothing is going to make me feel better unless I have a smoke", if I chewed a piece of gum, picked up the phone and called someone instead, fixed myself something good to drink...it always helped and hours later I'd think "Hmm I made it without one".
I was like you, a running smoker. Super caught up in healthy ways of life, etc. But always had that one dirty thing hanging over my head that I knew would counteract all the good I was trying to do for myself. So, I just stopped.
The little monsterTry reading Alan Carr's 'The Easy Way to Quit Smoking'. I know people who have had success with that.Who can't win.. So true, I read this little book and it inspired me, made me smile and I did quit, only to start again later.
The reason why you/I can't quit is we "don't want to" we know we "have to" "or should" and we know that we feel better when we slow down, have more energy, taste our food but oh, how great when we put that cigarette in our mouth, ahhh, stress, relief... Can't do it... It's gooooood.
Alan Carr actually makes sense, and it's fun to use your power, I am going to go out and buy that book again, and do it... I have to.. I feel in my "inner self" it's time, my age, is against me.
Then there was something Virgile wrote and I hope he will forgive me![]()
When we reach this place in our life where everything has found it's place, then there is no need to endulge in past habits.
When I read that personally? I knew...
Someone else, here that I love said, "don't be frightened of aids, don't try cold turkey, did that too and got down to 3 a day, so you can still smoke and work through it ..
You don't have to go , that's it...
Just find your personal, happy medium and start working towards it, chances are at some point, you will say, way, no, I love not doing it..:P
Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.
Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
you must believe!
