Totally harmless, your body treats it just like anything else you swallow.
I do it often. Probably several times a week, for a very very long time. I've heard stories about it being bad for you sticking to your guts for 7 years... etc. I've not had any symptoms of problems to date... but I am curious if its a harmless action or if I better stop doing it?

Yay ty, I am a smoker, former over eater, major oral fixator and popping gum is what rescues me from excess cigs and food and I will ocassionally for no good reason forget it and swallow it and recently it occured to me I better make sure I'm not doing something harmful!! I feel a lot better thanks!

LOL I think we all heard that as kids, it's about as true as, step on a crack break your mother's back.

I've always swallowed too. lol.Same thing here, on the oral fixation part. I watched an episode of myth busters about this very thing. The end result was something like, unless you swallow a VERY VERY large piece of bubble gum that could cause intestinal blockage (similar to swallowing any other foreign object) your body passes it through just like it would anything else.
Swallow away my dear!
Oh ps bubblegum helps LOADS with food cravings and smoke cravings for me. I seem to have this need to be doing something with my mouth that lead me to constant eating before I changed my lifestyle... and then chain smoking . But having that gum to pop keeps my nervous energy to a mininum. I also use to chew my hair and there still isn't a pen/pencil in the house that isn't carved up from my teeth :P

Totally get ya on curving the food cravings bit. That and drinking endless cups of tea helps me a lot.
