Is there anything wrong with oversleeping. I sleep about 10 hours a day. Sometimes more on weekends. Are there health risks? I feel tierd all the time. I just feel like I need it.

You feel tired all the time BECAUSE you are oversleeping. I've been there, too.

Try sleeping about 7 hours every day and see how you feel. You might be surprised at how much more energy you'll have.

I've read some studies on how oversleeping can lead to various health risks in the end I think the data was inconclusive.

You should go to the doctor and get checked out. It could be something as simple as you are anemic which can be resolved by taking iron pills. It may just be nothing. I know I tend to sleep more in the fall/winter months when it's darker out for more hours of the day. If this doesn't seem like it's normal for you and it doesn't imporve with spring arriving (some people have the S.A.D. seasonal affective disorder which is a lack of sunshine or vitamin D) then I would make an appointment with your doctor and get it checked out.

Ha I don't go out in the sun as often as a should. But I have been sleeping this way year around as long as I can remember. My mom tells me stories about me pouting around when she woke me up as a child. I would cry If she woke me up, no matter what time of day it was. Even as an infant I sleep through the night and on into the day. Lol but yea I guess it is something to look into but I live in the states and even with insurance medical bills are steep. I don't go to the doc unless I am dying, so once in my whole life lol. (appendix at age 8) Guess it couldn't hurt to try to sleep less though. Ugh lol. Thanks Girls

i sleep 13+ hours a day lol. it really started wen i lived in alaska. i start out getting a normal amount of sleep but wen i moved to alaska i began sleeping more like 9 or 10. & now that i live in cali & have no job & nothing to do since i'm stuck at home on weekdays i sleep 13 or more hours a day. i wake up at one in the afternoon. i have tried soooooo hard to get up at earlier but it's like my body just won't allow it. i feel like i am in a coma sometimes, as if i can't break from it. i wake up once or twice in the morn but only long enough to realize i am awake & feeling like my arms & legs r held down with concrete then i'm out again. i hate it cause i feel like i am sleeping my life away but it also feels like my body is screaming MORE SLEEP PLEASE!!! ugh idk i hate this but try as i might i can't wake up early

I think it also has to do with your age and what sort of activities you engage in during the day and what types of food you indulge in, as well as your mood (and vice versa).

10 hours is still OK, for as long as you are accomplishing the important stuff you need to. When I was your age, I used to sleep that way and even more actually. During sem-breaks I remember going back home and totally hybernate in my room, then only time I get up from bed is when I go to the bathroom for hygiene, or to the kitchen for food (my mom even brought me my food in bed) and then crash back to sleep.

I was OK then, no health issues. I think it was my body's way of recouping all those lost sleep during school.

But anything too much over a long period of time would eventually spell something is wrong. You said you've been like this for a long time. Try to see a sleep doctor and see what he/she says. soem people have underlying medical issues that are undiagnosed, i.e. high blood pressure and/or diabetes, among others.

May I ask how your room's lighting is? Does the sun peep at you in the morning?

^im not sure if u r talking to me or basketcase. but c i think i could understand sleeping as much as i do if i was really active wen i was awake. but i'm not. usually wen i'm awake i clean the house, but i don't everyday because there is only so much i can clean b4 it's all clean lol. so 2 days of the week i clean house, 3 days of the week i sit around & do nothing, & the weekend i am super busy! so really 5 days out of the week i'm not really active!
as far as lighting, in the day i turn of the lamp & i open all (5) the shades & both doors (2) to let in the sunshine.
i honestly am not worried about how long i sleep but more the fact that i feel like, wen i do wake up for a minute or so, i can move....like i can't control my body to move & get up. as if i were a vegetable from the neck down

    Basically with Basketcase. Sorry.

But I do feel for you. Maybe you should ride a bike or do something in the day and try to look forward to doing it more (if you enjoy it). More sunshine, more up-beat mood I think.

I am that way during weekends. I am so nocturnal.
