Hi, I wish to share my story about a bad UTI last summer, maybe someone had a similar experince as I did, maybe some advice can be shared. I will try to be as brief as possible.
In July last year I had symptoms of a UTi , I intially thought it was a pulled muscle in my kidney area causing discomfort, but the doctor confirmed it was an infection, before this I had never heard of a UTI. I was hospitalised overnight and sent home with anti biotics. The week following home was the worst ever, my condition got worse and worse with each day, eventually DH had to bring the folding day bed into the lounge, I went back into hospital and this time they said it was Pyelonephritis ( the infeciton rreaches the kidney). I stayed for 10 days, again I got worse still, temperature was not coming down and eventually I could no longer pee.
They did the scans etc.. and found a collection of pus around the right kidney , tried to drain it but it kind of sorted it self out. I had a catheter for the next 24 hours to see if kidneys drain OK, they were fine but after removing catheter I could not pee myself, bladder was in retention. OMG what a shock for me. I had to self catheterise for about a week till things started working again. I lost alot of weight and then also put loads back on, had lots of anti biotics, and allergy tablets due to allergic reactions to pills and scans.
What a nightmare it was!!!!

I have been so much better this year but for the past 3-4 days have been feeling similar symptoms, nothing as bad as last year thankfully, but enough to get me worrying. I was peeing more than normal and kidney areas were burning, have 3 day course of anti biotics. I have since last year done alot of reading up on this and am aware of the preventative measures I need to take, I also read here that cranberry pills and vitamin c pills also help.
I am looking to see what magic solution will work for me, at the moments it's trial and error, havn't found any answers as yet.
So isn't that one of the worse UTI stories you ever heard? It sure has made me change alot of things, I hardly ever drank water before now I am better, I have cut down on tea.
Also before I end, I have the symptom of a feeling like something is stuck at the back of my throat. I know this is to do with the UTI becasue it doesn;t ever happened at any other time. My doctor doesn't think it is but it's just one of those things that you just know. Did you have this stuck in the throat feeling?
Sorry to go on a bit but I needed to ask these quesitons as I am a bit lost.
Thanks for reading.
