    Question Experience with thyroid problems?

So my sister has always been just a slightly thicker girl- in an absolutely beautiful way. However in the past two to three months I've noticed a drastic increase in her weight- her arms look bloated with little pink blush patches, and her thighs and butt have significantly thickened. These past three months have been been stressful for her as my parents are divorcing and she was studying to graduate from the university, etc. I'm wondering if the stress has triggered thyroid problems, because her weight gain has been so rapid. She admits that she hasn't had the best diet, that of any other busy student with two jobs, and that she has been drinking; however these choices have not resulted in major weight gain all through college, so why now, all of a sudden? I don't want to freak her out or mention her weight until I have something better to discuss with her than making better consumption choices. Anybody have any similar symptoms resulting in thyroid disease?

I don't personally, but she can go and get a blood test for less than $50 to put her mind at ease (or get her the information that she needs to take action)
Stress can cause rapid weight gain, especially for someone who already has a weight problem. Try to support and encourage he to have a healthier lifestyle regardless of her size. I don't know her personality or how she'll react if you approach the subject but if you come at her from the angle that you're worried and want her to be healthy, you may get a better response.

That's what I was worried about- I'm afraid to ask her because she's always been worried about her self image (though she's always been gorgeous and still is despite her weight gain) and she's a very intense person. I just don't want to be like, "look bridget, you've gained weight" without proposing a reason why that doesn't require accountability from her. But you're right- how can she be pissed when I'm just worried? Thanks
