If 'natural' is the only way she wants to go then the only way to even attempt lowering her cholesterol is through a good diet and exercise routine otherwise it is basically going to be a scam. If she has genetic familial hypercholesterolemia then she is going to be on the statins regardless, if it is not genetic then again only diet and exercise will help if she is still planning on avoiding medicine.

Have her start taking fish oil and garlic capsules every day. This won't be an instant fix but my mom takes this combo every day to help keep hers down. Obviously, this won't work without being in conjunction with a healthy diet and sufficient exercise.

I don't blame her for not wanting chemicals and prescription drugs. Tell her to try the natural way. Fish oil capsules + garlic capsules + balanced low cholesterol diet + exercise.

    agree w/ BD and It's.
She may also want to add a nicacin suppliment. Niacin is fairly inexpensive, can be bought w/o a perscription and was one of the first anti-cholesterol treatments used. It can be pretty effective and isn't usually contradicted by prescription meds. One of the early side effects can be flushing of the skin, but some formulations out now are advertised as being 'flush free'.
Check it out for yourself, talk to the doc about it - then have mom try it if y'all think appropriate
