    Unhappy minimal Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB)

my husband got sick with "koch's infection" = (minimal PTB) just this May 2010. He's been coughing badly, but no blood, his chest xray shows opacity and 3 negative sputum tests. He's been taking Myrin-P Forte (4 capsules a day) as instructed by his pulmonologist for 2 months. This end of July is his 2nd month. He will go for a check-up this Friday - 23 July 2010, to check on his lungs and improvement of his treatment. Now, there is no more cough, though sometimes he feels itchyness in his throat and as if he would like to expell phlegm.

    My questions are:
    1. Can he resume from working even if the full course of treatment of 6 months is not yet over?
    2. Can he still have his future back of having stable job and stable finances once his treatment is done?

He got depress and frustrated because of his situation, sudden stop of woking, and no income. He is scared of not having his normal life again after the treatment. He is scared of loosing his job and money forever. And most of all he is scared that he may not get well.

    Please help us. Thank you.

Only his doctor can answer these types of questions

agree w/ Secret re: your questions. Just thought I'd mention that it is extremely important that he finish the course of antibiotics even tho symptoms have gone. Lots of folks stop the drugs when feeling better and that can lead to some of the infection remaining - can come back w/ a vengence plus be antibiotic resistant - much harder to treat then. also, have you been checked? anyone living in close contact w/ infected person is at risk. Often they are treated with a shorter course of antibiotics just to prevent infection.

my husband is staying in Philippines while I am working here in Singapore. thank you for the reminder, yeap, i knew that the anti-TB should be taken exactly as per physicians instructions. I advised my husband on that and he's going back for a check up this friday to know the improvement, and the medicine to be taken for the next 4 months. he just want to find work while under medication. i told him that he can still work even if under medication "if" the doctor provided him a clearance that his fit to work.

Any TB is risky and it is often highly recommended that a person stay away from the general public for fear of spreading the infection. However if the doctor says it is okay then it is going to be okay. But only they can give that clearance, no one else or no site can do that.
