I get horrible migraines and I have been getting them for years but they seem to get worse. I have had a migraine for about 3 days now, it is killing me. I cant really stand to do anything for any long periods of time and I cannot sleep. No medicine is even touching the pain. I can't feel when I have a migraine coming, it just hits me and then I am down for a few days. Why would I be getting such horrible migraines? What can be done to help this?

Have you tried pressure points? I get migraines and they are horrible. The only thing that helps is massaging the appropriate pressure point, Motrin 800 and two ice packs, one on the back of the neck and on on my forehead.

Have you been seen by a Dr for them?

You may need some stronger meds if you want to go down that route, otherwise it is pretty difficult to just rid yourself of painful migraines.

I get migraines pretty bad as well but they only come when the pressure in the air changes.
I had one last year in June. I woke up and thought it was a normal headache so i took some advil and laid back down. That didn't end well. I woke up feeling nauseated and just plain sick. It was so bad that I couldn't talk or walk straight. I couldn't even remember how to spell the word "the". I was also throwing up everything I tried to eat or drink. I probably got sick about 15 times that day if not more. My dad took me to the doc where they did countless tests on me which varied from Urine tests, Blood tests, they tested my blood sugar, everything. The end result was that I was dehydrated which I knew. They gave me pills to take for severe pain (can't remember the name but I will look and let you know) which actually knocked me out for a while. They help. You still have a slight migraine after but you don't have all the other effects with it. I'd go talk to your doctor though, maybe they could give you something that'll help.

I would advise that you see a doctor.
I used to get them frequently, was put on Butalbital and needed complete darkness, silence, and could not eat. At the time my doctor recomended hot caffeine drinks. It really helped me.
I have not had one for a while now, and am thankful. They are completely debilitating..

I've had trouble with migraines for years as well. Taking anything like ibuprofen didn't touch the pain. Aspirin does help somewhat though. Five years ago, I started seeing a doctor and he started me on medicine to prevent them. If you get them frequently, as I was, that may be something you can speak with your doctor about. I take two different medicines daily to prevent my migraines, and while I still have an occasional one, it won't hurt nearly as bad as before I was on the medication.

many things can trigger migraines, I recommend seeing a doctor they maybe be able to help you with medications. Also when you get a one try to make a log of the few days prior (what you can remember) what you ate how you slept, if you had more stress then normal. This might help pinpoint something that may be contributing to them.

    As promised,
These are the pills my docs gave me. The day my dad took me to the doctor, it was actually a sunday so I was unable to see my regular doctor. Earlier in the year though, I told my usual doc about my migraines and she prescribed me something as well.

So the doctor I went to for my migraine back in June that my dad took me to prescribed me a medicine called Tramadol then my usual doctor prescribed me a pill called Apap/Codeine which is basically just a strong tylenol.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Nothing really comes close to touching the pain that they give me and yes they are completely debilitating! I will definitely get in to see a doctor, but, here is my next question. Do I go and see my primary care doctor or do I see a neurologist? On my insurance I do not need a referral for a specialist, I am able to see one if I need too. I just want to go to the doctor that will help me out the best.

Primary care can deal with it just fine. The specialist should only be necessary if the even stronger meds (and more than one type if it comes to that) do not work.
