    Default Fleas?

Today, I went to my friend's house to help her paint a dining room set for her apartment. While we were chatting, she casually mentioned that her mom found fleas in her dog's bed a while back (about a week maybe?) and she threw the bed out. This friend of mine has been out of town for the past week, and complains that her boyfriend's family doesn't take care of the dog and that it has fleas, so that must be where her dog got them from.

Well, of course, I don't want to have fleas on me! My friend and her brother both said that niether of them have been itching (save her brother's poison ivy rash), but I was a bit concerned as fleas can carry diseases to people and animals. I was there from about 2:00pm to 5:10pm today, and as soon as I got home I stripped off my clothes and threw them in the wash (Jeans, underwear, socks, bra and t-shirt) and took a long hot shower (about 45 minutes). I plugged the tub up so that when I got dressed in clean(er) clothes, I could examine to see if any fleas drowned.

I don't really feel itchy (I think when I started to get itchy at my friend's it was 'shadow itches' because I thought I had fleas on me) and when I was rubbing my hand over my jeans, I didn't see anything jumping. I didn't really see anything on my clothes or my skin but I was wearing a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans.

What are the chances of me catching fleas and how long would it take for me to notice? What would I have to do if any got into my bed or on my stuffed animals or sheets?

Fleas reallyl like hair/fur, more so than clothes.. But the problem is not solved until the fleas and their eggs are killed...

What you have to tell your friend, is dog beds need to be washed weekly, and anywhere the dogs have been you can guarantee that there will be a flea here and there, she may have to bomb the house, as well as her boyfriends with a flea bomb and if they sleep on anyones bed, wash the bedding.. Then de-flea the dogs and keep doing that every 3 months, yes it's costly but it's a responsibility, when you own a pet.. The dog would be itching let's face it.

I think her mom did something to de-flea the house, but I think that is just me assuming something that may or may not even be true. Her boyfriend's parents refuse to use anything but essential oils to treat their dog, which is not helping, but they don't believe in "chemical" treatments that aren't organic (while I believe going organic is great, seriously! TREAT YOUR BLOODY DOG PROPERLY!). She's one step away from calling the humane society on them, I think.

But would I have picked up any fleas? I was wearing all dark clothes and I've heard that fleas are attracted to white fabric. I didn't see any jumping in the house, nor did I see any on my clothing or on my body. I have not had a terrible itching feeling, and I don't see any bite signs at all (No welts or irritation).
