Awwwww hun.Why were they denied? How much are they, out of pocket? Is there a cheaper, generic version of those pills that worked?
After 8 years of heartburn, I finally went in. My allergist gave me a GREAT heartburn med that my insurance denied, since I can't afford it out of pocket I went to a gastroenterologist who did an endoscopy. So one hiatal hernia and ulcer later...I've got a prescription for new heartburn pills.
Tomorrow will be day 5 on them...they are not working. It's 2:46 am here and I'm still awake because I'm in pain and I'm worried about lying down because when my heartburn is this bad...I tend to vomit. It's likely due to the hiatal hernia...but I really hate sitting in the floor of the bathroom for 30 minutes trying just to breathe.
I'm calling my doctor back tomorrow and saying these are working and I need help. I can't keep this up. Those pills my insurance company denied worked. Oh my gosh they worked so well...for the first time in YEARS I was able to just snack and eat whatever and be okay. I slept without waking up choking. Sheesh, my husband and I could have sex without me thinking about my heartburn.
After those pills I realized how uncontrolled it was on just Zantac...and I really want my life back. I'm so so so tired...I just want to lie down. I just want new pills, and I want my heartburn and the pain to stop.

It's a newer drug so there are no generics for it. It was $152.00 out of pocket each month, even with a manufacturer's coupon it was around $98.00...unfortunately right now that is not doable at all. They were denied because the insurance company wants me to use a cheaper medicine that will work. So far though no luck. Eventually if I move through all the other meds out there, either they'll approve the medicine or approve me for surgery. By the way, I'm 29...heartburn has been going since I was 21. *sigh*
Maybe I can just call tomorrow and cry and ask if I can double the dose. I drank baking soda and water tonight and it's only worked a little. This is the second night like this and it's so frustrating because I *know* now that it can be better. :P
It's been a long year, serious allergies and now allergy shots, PCOS, hiatal hernia and ulcer, a bunch of moles removed and breathing treatments every time a doctor listens to me breathe!!! lol I'm thankful I have insurance as I was without it for three years before this...but seriously I could just kick the rep who denied the med that worked. :P

I have had acid reflux for almost 7 years now so I know of the pain of heartburn, from even drinking water. No endoscopy for me yet but it is on its way and I am sure the results will be less than pleasing considering I did not mention anything to my doctor about the heartburn until just this past year. Every OTC med works however it only offers momentary relief and that is essentially useless when you suffer from it all day and all night. At one point I could end up eating an entire bottle of tums in a week...no fun.
So my doc put me on Lansoprazole (aka Prevacid) and it only took 2 days before I felt nothing, absolutely no heartburn from anything again. But it has been about 8 months since being on Prevacid and it just is not working the same as it did before. I guess I am going to have to go into the doctor again and see if there is something stronger I can take. So again I know what its like to find that good medication that just works wonders, even though mine is going to be gone too since it is not working so great. I still keep the pathetic OTC chalky meds they call antacids stocked up in my house just to keep the pain at bay if need be but it would be nice to find that one medication that just stopped all the painful feelings for once and never have to look back.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
They are giving me two new samples, Aciphex and something else today since the other medicine isn't work. I'm to try the Aciphex first, then if it doesn't work try the other new medicine.
At least I got to sleep for a couple of hours this morning. Thank God I don't have kids...just can't seem to make the family members leave me alone, lol
I feel for you.
I'm currently on Nexium, since Prevacid nor Prilosec wouldn't work for me. I was once prescribed Cytotec, but it's not advised these days anymore.
Sometimes I wish we could just buy some "parts" and replace our damages so we don't have to eat up all those medicines on a trial and error basis. I feel like a guinea pig with a bigger brain.

i have acid reflux (gurd) and at first took prevacid..it worked great but was expensive..now i take "rabeprazole" (20 mg)..it costs me $111.00(canadian) for a 100 day supply..don't know how much it may cost you where you live but it worked for me every bit as good as prevacid..whether prevacid or rabeprazole it works for me within 2 days of taking them when i first started..

My first med was Omeprazole which is the active ingredient in Prilosec. Cannot wait until tomorrow to try my next pill...just have to get through tonight!!!!
I’ve had acid reflux for 9 years myself and it’s definitely not fun. I actually inherited the problem from my mom who also has been dealing with it for years. I’ve had this problem since I was 12 and I am now 20 so it’s been a big pain for me to.
I get heartburn from just about everything. Drinking tap water will give me heartburn. The only things that really don’t are dairy products and saltine crackers. My mom and I have tried a ton of different pills from Zantac, to Prilosec and now we’re using a generic brand by Equate. I normally have to take two pills a day just to keep my heartburn from coming and I have to make sure to stop eating at around 8 and if I eat after 8, I make sure to drink tons of ice water which helps.
I talked to my doctor this past year about it and even previous years and they’ve all said just to use Prilosec but in all honesty, that doesn’t work for me. I found I was waking up more during the night than I would normally. We’ve had to switch pills fairly often because our bodies got immune to it. I know a trick that works for me during the night when I get up with heartburn is to get a glass of ice water and a sleeve of saltine crackers and it’ll help take away the burn and allow me to sleep again but the after cough for at least two days after is horrendous. My doc things a lot of my heartburn problem would be from my weight gain since I got on my birth control about 3 years ago now but I had heartburn before hand.
I guess it’s just something we have to deal with. I know since starting to bike ride for miles every day my heartburn hasn’t bothered me as much thankfully but it still likes to come up and bother me. I’ll be talking to my doc this year to see what else we could try. My mom has been debating on trying prevacid but we haven’t gotten to it yet.
Day 5 of Aciphex....This is day 3 of really bad hives
I've taken my Allegra and each day I've had to take an extra 1 to 2 Benedryl to keep the welts down. Currently I'm typing with little itchy welts all over my right arm and leg.
While yes, I've had hives before...nothing like this. Suggestions? My husband wants me to stop taking the Aciphex and switch to the other heartburn pill the doctor gave me in case the Aciphex didn't work. It's like whatever is causing the allergy reaction in my body is kicking my Allegra's butt.
I'm hesitant to go off because my appointment is on Tuesday with the doctor and I'm worried he'll think I'm crazy or something. I'd love some input.
