    Hello all

i would just like to hear from anyone who has personally had an experience taking warfarin or knows of someone who took/takes warfarin.

Im mainly after any strange side effects? and possible surgery while on warfarin or just off it and how it went?

I have a decision to make about getting surgery but am not sure of the success rate, my concern is being on the warfarin that thins the blood, then going under the knife...

your doctor will advise you to discontinue taking warfarin about 3-4 days before surgery

Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will likely not allow the procedure to happen unless you confirm that you are off it. Talking to your doctors ahead of time will let you know of what to expect side effect wise, if anything is to happen that is.

Is that what they are going in to remove? If not then they that is a up in the air situation in which you would have to have a sit down with the doctor to find out. Clots can be extremely dangerous. The problem lies in what would happen if that clot were to burst mid surgery. Some clots, even when suddenly released pose no real problem and are dealt with by the surgeon quickly and effectively. No worries there. However there are clots that once they become displaced can cause mass hemorrhage and obviously cause great problems for the surgeon.

Surgery is a big step for any condition so talking with your doctor to answer all of your questions and concerns is important. The doctors know and understand this so they will provide their best medical opinion for you.
