Hi can someone please help me find my problem? At first 3 weeks ago I was told I had food poisoning as I threw up horribly in the evening and the next day had agonising tummy cramps with painful diarhoea. I went to doc again rhat day and he said I had a virus and put me on antibiotics and nothing is helping. Its been 3 weeks and I'm still having bad diarhoea and a small amount of tummy aches. No nausia though. The evening I threw up I had a glass of milk after I had my dinner so I put it to the milk (I have a sensitive stomach and shouldn't mix milk with meat but I did coz I really wanted a glass of milk.) Could I have an allergy to milk or lactose? Its mostly at night and straight after I eat, my gets loud and gurgly and then a few cramps and then need the toilet pretty fast. I've tried holding it in but then I get bad cramps. It feels like I am having bad period pains aswell even though I have finished my period. Could be worms? Or IBS(irritable bowl syndrome)? Or an allergy to something? Also had a very bad period and I thought maybe the diarhoea was from that (normally get abit of diarhoea when its that time of month). Its not going away and I'm really worried. Could it even be from smoking? Can any help me?
It is possible that the food poisoning is still in your body because of the bacteria or toxins present, also possible that you have a certain type of infection from say Salmonella which will last longer. It is also possible that you are continuously having food poisoning with other food that is being improperly handled or cooked (its unlikely but it is possible). Continuous diarrhea is still not a good thing as your body is obviously being rid of huge amount of liquids including vitamins, nutrients and electrolytes. An upset stomach should not be soothed with milk, it needs to be either regular water (none of those added sugar varieties) or even Ginger ale, no other type of soda, sipped very slowly-the bubbles help calm the stomach. You can also drink a bottle of Gatorade or Powerade to restore the electrolytes you keep losing.
Outside of that, it is possible you have developed lactose intolerance. It can happen randomly so all you would need to do is find the specific types of lactose intolerance milk which contain less of the sugars, or casein, that causes the upset stomach.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
