I'd posted a thread earlier about yeast infections. Turns out I DO have one, saw a doctor, he prescribed "Diflucan" and some external cream. I read up on Diflucan however and I do not feel safe taking it after all the side effects people had experienced from it. I grew up in a health conscious home, so it was rare that I took antibiotics. I've never used tampons before and having pap smears done freak me out, I'm a bit of a wuss, haha. I attempted getting a Monistat applicator up me but it didn't work. I stress out too much and my vaginal muscles tighten so nothing can get up!

I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I have been doing the natural approach, eating plain yogurt and putting some into my vagina. Spraying diluted tea tree oil onto the area after every washroom use. Drinking and bathing in apple cider vinegar. Eating garlic, etc. It appears to be getting better but not fast enough! I also got some tears inside of me from the yeast infection.

Any advice for me? Other methods I could try? How long will the tears take to heal?

Advice? Take the Diflucan. Researching things online is notorious for over exaggerations because people are often just generally terrified of medicine so they will paint an evil picture hoping that no one actually visits their doctors. But if people really do not trust their doctors then it is as simply as not visiting them, which is the route lots of people do. There are more successful cases of drugs working in these cases than the side effects that are noted as being rare. Everything has a side effect possibility if you put it in your body. The yogurt you put inside you for example can harbor sugars which can only feed the already present yeast. Is it 100% going to happen?, no lol, but is it a possibility? yes. I know you do not wish to go with the prescription approach but a doctor is not going to advise anything other than what has worked for his other patients. No one should force you to take something you do not want but remember that if things are not working from your own personal ways then assistance is needed and that could mean taking antibiotics.

I think you really should take the Diflucan, if you want it good and gone.

I despise the internet for this reason. Seriously hun, research something/anything long enough and everything will lead to immediate death, lol. Part of the reason I never ever go to WebMD.

You've tried the natural methods and it's not working quick enough. You can be health conscious and take antibiotics, it's okay, sometimes your body just needs that assistance to get over things.

Plain yogurt does not harbor sugars. It contains active bacterial cultures, good bacterial cultures that your body needs to fight off the '"bad" ones (overgrowth of yeast). Antibiotics WEAKEN your body's immune system and make you become dependent on them. I get strep throat quite a bit, I took the natural approach for the first little while, gargling with salt and warm water and it worked great, cleared everything up. One time I decided to try antibiotics, my body can no longer fight off the strep throat by using the salt and warm water because of the antibiotics.

It is a proven fact that antibiotics are not good at all for your immune system, plenty of studies have been done and yet people still like to rely on them to feel better. What do you think they did before antibiotics were invented to cure their illnesses? Doctors and pharmacists want you to buy antibiotics because they want money, simple as that. They don't care, if they did, they would inform you of the other options available. Even the OTC drugs such as Canesten or Monistat kill off the good bacteria that your body NEEDS to repair itself. Don't believe me? Research it.

Yes the internet has a lot of lies out there, I am aware of that. It's wrong that so many people are brainwashed into believing that antibiotics are the ONLY way to cure things such as yeast infections. Your body does not need "assistance", if you eat well and take care of your body, it will fight off whatever you get. It is a thousand times stronger than any stupid antibiotic.

Sorry if you think I'm being harsh but, this is the truth.

Hey, it's your choice. We were just offering our opinions (as it seemed you have tried your best to remedy the situation on your own), no need to get snippy and offended.

If you don't want to take the Diflucan, don't take it. I'm not going to get into it the pros and cons of medicine with you. I look at medicine from a subjective stand point, it has it's good and bad.

Did you explain to your Dr and ask for his or her suggestions before accepting the prescription for the meds? You may also want to call a naturopath, they may have some suggestions for you as well.

I wasn't trying to be snippy, sorry if sounded that way. I'm not saying that in some cases antibiotics is the best thing to do but in most cases, it isn't. Especially with a yeast infection when it's just an overgrowth of bad bacteria, your body can easily fight it off if you give it the right tools.

I talked to the doctor about other options but he basically told me that "nothing else would work". In different terms of course. He also said there were no side effects to the drug when I asked him about it, which there clearly is. EVERY antibiotic has possible side effects and he wouldn't even discuss it with me. I'm a bit annoyed at myself for even taking the drug now.

That's a good idea, I'll talk to a naturopath and see what they say. From what I hear though, garlic is the best thing because it kills yeast. Women who have suffered from yeast infections for years and have taken antibiotics/OTC drugs say that garlic works a thousand times better and prevents them from coming back.

I remember as a youth, getting Thrush, have no reason why after all I was only 11

Being that young, my Doctor actually recommended pretty much what you are doing, natural yoghurt, however, I think there is a specific one there, not just plain over the counter natural yoghurt, and warm baths, with vinegar and salt...

The vinegar helps stop the itching, the salt heals. Ever remember being told if you have a cut to go to the beach and swim in the sea?

You would have to speak to someone though, to ensure your not putting too much vinegar or salt. I also would bath myself manually with this over the loo, combined it worked.

Yes, it does take alot longer than the antibiotics, I've on odd occasions had that too and I don't think "my opinion" that there is anything wrong with taking anything on occasions, it's when you keep getting it back and you keep taking drugs that underlies the problem...

Drinking and bathing in apple cider vinegar.
I don't know of any other natural methods that can assist..

Good luck, it's a horrid thing for a woman to go through but the good thing is it does go away...

You are aware that any form of Thrush, Yeast Infection is actually passed on to the male only they are not aware of it, and then passed back to you upon intercourse again? He also needs to be treated...
