About 4 years ago I had a horse back riding accident (my body + asphalt= a bad time) any how...I sprained my wrist pretty bad they took x-rays and said nothing was broken..Well ever since then my wrist will randomly become extremely sore and at all times hurts to flex it. the location of the pain :if you follow your middle finger down to your wrist that spot directly in the center of your wrist is where the pain is (if the palm of your hand is facing down) I just wanted to know if this is normal or if anyone else has experienced this too.. Any ideas on how to make it better would be great too!

i have had my fair share of horse riding accidents as well lol and i have learnt from what feels like a million trips to the doctor that most of the time a second, third or even fourth opinion is often needed.

What type of pain is it when you try to flex? if its a tight muscular pulling or a stiffness type of pain I would say you're best bet would be a physiotherapist (especially if when you try to flex you can noticeably feel your ligament tighten) - i swear they can perform miracles lol. How bad were the grazes from the asphalt? could it be possible that a tiny bit of gravel may have managed to stay stuck in there?

And also when you say every now and then the pain occurs is it triggered by something? If its a certain movement with a clicking or is worse in cold weather it probably points more towards muscular damage again.

    Hope I could help

A lot of fractures don't show up on xrays so if you can get your doctor to give you a bone scan, even now, that will help. There is a possibility you received a hairline, or stress fractures...these are notorious for not showing up on xrays. What this means is that if it has healed, you may have some kind of arthritis that has set in, it often happens when a bone breaks and heals....changes in weather can make it worse. That also means if that is the case, there is a chance it is irritating the median nerve...which can cause exactly what you've described.

Do you do a lot of things with that hand? As in, repetitive movements like playing games on the computer with a mouse, do you still ride and use that hand more? Do you notice the pain is more intense after certain activity?

Try a wrist brace to keep your wrist and hand still. Second, I used something cold when my wrists hurt bad to help. If it was a break that has healed though...well...I can speak from experience it might never change. My leg does this and the entire surrounding area ends up throbbing when the weather is bad or it is too humid. A visit to a doctor should be in order for sure though.

Thank you both, it isn't sore today the pain went away thankfully. I think I might have my doctor look into it just to see if maybe it was a fracture or some sort. It probably wont make any difference if it was or wasn't but at least I'll know what the cause of the pain is. It doesn't normally need anything to trigger it, the pain usually just shows up and last a few days then goes away. If feels like its deep (not a muscle ache) so I may have had a more serious injury then they said. The road rash wasn't deep and they definitely scrubbed it well when I went in and cleaned it all out so I know nothing is stuck in there.
Again thank you for your help hopefully this will be resolved! I'll post on here when ever I find something out!

    hi there!
i think i have the same problem! i hurt my wrist about.. 12 years ago! going down a fun ride at a theme park my firend fell against me and my wrist bent back.. so it hurt like for a week but it wasnt broken, it ws sprained apparently.. but now at random times it hurts. i cant apply too much pressure on it. or bent it back or forward alot. is that what u also experince. i cant do push ups wen my wrist hurts. voltaren doesnt seem to help. it just goes away by it self. have u found oout what was worng in the end.as no one knows how to help me. a doctor has injected an ant-inflamatory into the tendon a few moths ago. it helped immediately but only for 2 hours then the pain came back. he told me its a tear in a tendon or something and it will never heal, it will come and go. . so i must always come for injections . blah! so im just checking if you maybe found out what else it could be?
