    Hello,

I have only been taking Prozac for 2 months and I was wondering if my lack of sexual desire will go away when I stop taking the medication.

"...when I stop taking the medication."

I assume that you have asked to be weaned off of the med due to the side effects you are experiencing? It's NEVER a good idea to go off ANY medication "cold turkey" or just stop taking it. So before you do, please consult with the physician who prescribed it.

Having said that, sexual side effects are a big issue with several of the more popular antidepressants on the market. If you are taking it for depression, I hope you discuss with your physician the negative impact it has had on your desire and ask to be put on one that does not have this same side effect.

You may also consider reducing your dosage before you wean off and make any switch.

As a person who has battled with depression most of his life, and who has been prescribed seven different antidepressants over the last twenty five years, I have a little first hand experience. I've also dealt with ED or DE issues. Some related to the meds I was on at the time, some related to the stresses of daily life and some, well heck, I don't know why...

It's a double edged sword though.... Being depressed and going untreated can effect your desire and taking a med to treat the depression can also effect your desire.

Development of side effects can build up a tolerance. When a new drug is first introduced into the body it is basically going to be confused for awhile trying to sort everything out. 2 months on an antidepressant is quite simply the rough amount of time it takes to sometimes see even basic results, they are by no means fast acting drug relative to others. Give it some more time, let your body adjust, and if you decide you would like to come off the medication YOU MUST talk to a doctor first. You should never cut yourself loose from any medication without proper medical advise on how to do so.
