    Default Bad Menstrual and vomitting?

    Everytime my period comes on I get really sick and get bad cramps. Most of the time I vomit. I want to ask my doctor to give me a hormone test and maybe medicine to help with it. My sister said it probably has something to do with hormones, but Idk.What should I do? Do you know what it could be?

    I've known of some women who have such bad cramps that the pain makes them vomit. Do you take anything for the cramps when they hit? Ibuprofen, Pamprin, etc?

    Most likely your doctor is going to recommend putting you on birth control pill.

    If the cramps are really bad you should try the extra strength variety of otc pain meds. The regular strength will likely do nothing in your case. Personally I recommend Advil (Ibuprofen) over Tylenol (Acetaminophen), but there is also Midol which is made for menstrual cramping. It works really well in a lot of women. The cramps can also be helped with a hot water bottle or warmed up rice bag over your stomach, it really helps with the contraction of the muscles. Even sitting in a hot bath or shower for a bit will help ease the pains.

    As for the vomitting, you can take a whole bunch of things that will help prevent the nausea. Pepto bismol, Gravol (I recommend), and Dramamine are most common.

    Try eliminating all dairy and red meat for a couple of months. Do not eat anything heavy, greasy or sweet, for three hours before bed (more likely to cause reflux). Make sure you get plenty of sleep, lots of water and take a good vitamin. Yes hormones are a likely cause. Get some soy into your diet, soy milk, soy nuts, sesame soy (my fav) it helps balance your hormones.

    Do some walking and stretching that can relieve the cramping.

    You might want to check out the Woman's Advantage Diet, it helps women of childbearing years to adjust their diet to their needs at different times in their cycle.

    Well, Inorder for the medication to work I have to take it right before my period comes on. And usually don't know when it's going to come on until it does, so I take the medicine as soon as it comes on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I was taking the medication my doctor prescribed, which was for menstrual cramps but I'm out and the refill for it as expired. But I was worried something may seriously be wrong, like with my hormones or something. I want to get a hormone test, but my mom doesn't want to pay for it.

    I usually do take extra strength medications, but they take a while to work(almost an hour), and the pain relief doesn't last long. I may try the hot water bottle tip, but I hate sitting in the tub because I bleed kind of heavy so the water might be full of blood. Sorry if that's TMI. But I usually don't take showers either until my period goes off, because I hate how the blood runs down my leg(s). Sorry if that TMI too, just trying to seek help.

    Thanks! And I do walk daily. sometimes it helps but sometimes it doesn't. It's like any kind of movement irritates my body, I don't know why.

    Typically they take 20 minutes to work, and last about 4 hours. Says on the bottle, some are different times of course. It is best to just time it based on that if you are going to take any pain medication. If you know that those cramps are going to start soon then take a pill so that you can catch the pain before it even starts, that pill will cover a 4 hour window of 'guessing'.
