    Unhappy Carbon Monoxide!!! D:

Please people, I HAVE to convince my mom to stop being stupid!!! Our heater has broken down a good 4 times in like 2 months, maybe less... Finally when the last guy came in to fix it, he asked me if I get dizzy, have headaches, nausea, fainting?? Why, yes! All of the above!! All the time!! Please tell me it's Carbon Monoxide??? Sure is. We've got a pretty decent leak that cycles through the fan in the heater and pours out the vents on every floor. He basically condemned the heater, but told us that if it gets REALLY cold (mom is always cold cause she won't take her thyroid or blood pressure meds) we could run it, but we should have ATLEAST ONE WINDOW OPEN ON EACH FLOOR! Guess what mom thinks?? "That's a bunch of ! If it hasn't hurt us yet, it won't hurt us now! Leave ALL the windows CLOSED!!" So she won't let me have ANY windows open, ANY fans running, NO exhaust fan thingies going, and the heater has been running more than EVER. It's cranked up to like 80 degrees!!! Me?... I've been feeling dumber every year. I thought maybe it was age? or A.D.D getting worse?? But now that I KNOW we have it, I'm convinced it's the Carbon Monoxide >.< I get sick all the time. REALLY sick. I have developed kidney, heart, lung, bladder, blood pressure problems... LOTS of mental problems fainting spells, vomiting, blacking out, seizures, ringing/buzzing in my ears, and other randomness that gets better when I'm away from the house for a while... I also have problems with my blood cells similar to... eh... anemia?? I think it's called? I can't remember. YEAH! My memory sucks ALOT too!!! and so does my mom's.... She's got a semi-full of problems... on top of all that, I have arthritis throughout about 70% of my body, and 4 deteriorating disks in my back/neck. I'M ONLY FREGGIN 18 and 6 MONTHS!!!

Can someone, preferably LOTS of someones, convince my mom that this CAN hurt us?? PLEASE!!! I'm so tired of feeling like all the time!!!! and unless I get many people to back me up, she never listens... Old people always think they're right lol......

It sounds like you have visited doctors. Have them measure how well your body uses oxygen. Carbon monoxide binds with hemoglobin much better than oxygen does. You won't clear a significant amount of it going in a few hours for a test. They should be able to determine if you are being poisoned.

The fire department can come out and use an electronic "sniffer" to detect carbon monoxide levels. They also the legal ability to condemn the furnace and declare the house inhabitable until it is repaired or replaced. There is no charge for them to come out and check. They would rather check and find it is safe than deal with a fire/explosion/death. You are right to be concerned this is very dangerous.

Sounds awesome, and I thought about it too... My only problem is that I hate doctors to begin with, and mine are complete MORONS. I live in Port Huron, ya know, the place where it's easier to give yourself a shot/IV than it is to let the pimple-faced kids around here try to do it -.- AND charge you 300$ for their horrible failures....

Free eh?... Hmm... I will definitely think about it ^_^ and I mean shoot, might not have to even go THAT far... Could just threaten my mom with doing it and get her to leave some freggin windows open!!! Cause that'd be fine with me for as long as like, 6 months... Provided she'll actually fix the thing eventually >.<

Threats many times don't work and can backfire. Once a test is done and the results known, it is hard to unring that bell.

CO is actually a pretty dangerous thing to be around, too much and it can greatly affect brain tissue. The problem with it is that most people have no idea it is even being leaked. CO is odorless, colorless, and tasteless there is no way you can walk down a hall and say "it smells funny", cannot be found like that. Most people actually pass out in their house before anyone finds out that CO was being leaked. At least you have gotten word from someone that it is in the house. It is definitely going to have to be looked into though, and the doctors are the only people that can help if levels are too high in the body already.

Why not buy an alarm for your room?
You are dealing with a gas, which sits on the floor so you will want one that plugs in to the wall outlet or a battery operated one and mount it to a wall no more than 2' from the floor. Placing a gas alarm on the ceiling is useless. (I do this are part of my work).

Read the instructions to your mom, especially the part about getting out of the house immediately if the alarm goes off.

Yeah, that's probably the number 1 option I was gonna shoot for.... But they seem to be fairly expensive -.- ah well, cheaper than going to my doctors to have 'em pick their noses and go "duuuhhhh..... we dunno"
