Can being stressed out for several months make you lose your hair? I am losing mine and my doctor said its because I so stressed. Is that true? How do I stop it?

    Yup.

Stop being stressed? You did not mention what stresses you out, I mean I lose my hair because school frustrates me incredibly but I cannot exactly get up and leave it for another month lol. Whatever is stressing you out is what you will need to work on improving. I take a walk around the block for about 20 minutes when I want to throw my papers out and give up on my research or I go make a snack, even watch some dvds just to take my mind off of my work for even a half hour. It helps. Just take things in strides.

    Yes.

Reduce the stress in your life.

Sorry to sound redundant, but it's true. Stress in our lives, and most of us are seeing more and more of it, really takes it's toll on our mental and physical health. If we are not willing to make changes in our lives to reduce our stress levels now, we will pay the price later.

Walking outside in the fresh air and sunshine helps. Other forms of exercise help too. Consider joining a gym or fitness center. Get a massage, a facial, a manicure or pedicure. Don't feel you can afford such luxuries? Find a "beauty college" in your area. They generally offer these types of services at reduced rates. Not as good as a high priced salon but a good compromise in tough economic times.

Treat yourself to a bubble bath or other warm soak. Fill a tub with very warm water, as warm as you can stand, add one cup of Epsom salts and half a cup of Baking Soda, stir. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Climb in, close your eyes, RELAX, enjoy!

I dunno. Yeah stress can be a cause, but in my personal experience I've found that doctors know diddly-squat about hair loss.

YES stress can be a factor.

It can also be any number of other things, highly likely to be overlooked by your doctor.

I was losing my hair for a while and figured out (on my own, grrr) that it was caused by my birth control.

If you're on hormonal birth control, stop taking it immediately. In fact any other medication you may be on might be causing this side effect.

You could also possibly be deficient in some key vitamin, have you had blood work done?

And finally it could be hereditary. Any female in your family have this issue?

Absolutely, stress will cause hair to fall out. My roommate got very stressed last year, and her hair started thinning so much! When she went to see a therapist for stress management and started taking....Vitamin E I think it was, her hair slowly stopped falling.
Trying to get a hold of myself is really tough! But I'll keep trying.

Biotin is also good for hair (and nail) health. If you're stressed and not eating, that would definitely contribute to hair loss too.

Before you go to sleep every night take breathing excercises and try counting backwards from 100 in your head with your eyes closed, this will help you calm down. If your loosing hair try a cup full mix of white wine vinegar and avacado this will make hair last longer and become stronger! Try not to get worked up about things and try going on a healthy diet and excersise at leased once a day, this will make you feel stronger and more in charge of your happiness! Best of luck xoxo beauty exprt

I was losing my hair in massive amounts not too long ago. I thought I was going to go bald!

Stress can definitely be a cause. There can be other reasons as well:

    -thyroid problems
-it could be an indication of lupus
-if you were very ill in the last few months (your body will sometimes place your hair follicles prematurely in the resting phase and cause them to fall out sooner than they normally would)
-seasonal hairloss (much like shedding of animals)
    -birth control
    -vitamin deficiency or iron deficiency
-hair dye (did you change your hair dye in the last few months?)

So, I would recommend visiting a doctor and get some blood work done just to rule out some of the causes and to relax a bit. Eat healthy, get some rest and don't worry about it. It will spontaneously stop and you won't even know what the cause was. I'm still trying to figure out what happened with me.

-also don't wash your hair everyday
-take it easy on hair products that might overwork your hair

    Goodluck.

Yes, I believe stress can be a major reason of hair loss at a small age. I have been through this stage and wish no one else would face the same scenario.

If the doctor thinks you are suffering from androgenic alopecia or commonly referred to as male and female pattern baldness. This condition is caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone or DHT. Basically, acts in the scalp, making the susceptible hair follicles incapable of creating more healthy thick hair, resulting to a permanent baldness.
Avoid too much stress, eat a balance or proper diet, intake more b vitamins and eat foods rich in protein. The other regimen is "Leimo" fights the DHT production in the scalp and stimulates natural hair regrowth. There are other products aside from Leimo.
