That little bit of medicine is probably not an issue. But you shouldn't drink and drive whether its alcohol or meds.
This morning I woke up and my cold is now pretty bad. It's not bad enough to knock me out, but it's enough to make me mildly miserable.
So I decided to take some cold medicine around 11:30-11:45. I got some DayQuil, and poured in half of a children's dose (7.5ml -- .5 tbsp), since I don't like taking full doses if I don't think I need to.
Well, my parents and I are eating dinner at 2pm. We are having prime rib and Dad decided we'd pair a dry red wine with it. We have a nice Norton that he's kept over a year and has been turning in the basement, so we opened it to taste it to see if it had turned or not.
This tasting included me, their 22-year-old daughter, who had forgotten all about the 7.5 ml of DayQuil she had taken not half an hour ago.
Yeah, silly me. You're not really supposed to do that. But my question is: How long should I wait until I can drink after taking that tiny amount of medicine? Also, will a small sip of alcohol be dangerous to me after taking the medicine? It wasn't a full glass (I rarely drink so I only ever take one or two sips from someone else), and I didn't take more than maybe a tbsp. of a sip.
Trying to get a hold of myself is really tough! But I'll keep trying.

Well, WildChild, driving isn't a problem (I don't have my license yet), and I know not to drive while under the influence of alcohol or medication. :3

Nothing is going to happen. The reason that things are listed like "do not consume with alcohol" is the people who take medication with a beer or a glass of wine and just pound it back because it is a liquid to help them bring down the medication. Those people are the reason that the no alcohol consumption is listed. Taking a fractional amount of a very mild childrens dose of cold medicine plus a sip of wine does not cause any violent reaction.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
You said you took the medication before 12, you had the wine at 2pm. Thats a two hour gap, not half an hour, so I think you will be fine. Plus, you only had a very small amount of both.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

You'll be fine.
Once, years ago, I had a beer and a half on a day my allergies were killing me, and I stupidly decided to take a full dose of Benadryl about half an hour after having the beer. That's what you're not supposed to do, and I ended up "super drunk." But I lived...
...though some might argue that I suffered permanent brain damage from that
...while others argue it was a preexisting condition![]()
