The last two days, I've been weaning myself off cigarettes. I've been a heavy smoker for years, quit during my two pregnancies, but started back up both times.

I'm not sure how many I had Thursday, but I only had 8 yesterday. My goal for the day is 6. It's tough going from chain smoking a good part of the day, to limiting how many I can have. I'm sure going cold turkey would be faster, but I don't wanna have to hurt anyone. Jk?

Anyone got any good tips? I don't wanna use the patch or gum. I stocked up on trident gum, dum dums, baby carrots, and altoids to help distract me, and I'm chewing the out of a tooth pick. I've heard drinking more water helps, too.

My husband says he could always just get me pregnant again, but I'm pretty sure there are more reasonable ways to quit. Lol

I'm going to be doing that to, so maybe we can encourage either other via VM's

I know that cold turkey is the best, it's out of your system quicker but honestly it's difficult and we are too moody and at this point in both of our relationships to risky haha.

It's not just a matter of slowing them down, it's a matter of ridding the ones that seem the most important and changing the thought pattern, what our brains are used to such as, as soon as we wake up with coffee, try 30 minutes of waiting, then extend that to 1hr.... if you smoke inside now it's outside, if you smoked in your car, now it's never in the car, etc..

It's conditioning our brain as our brain was used to a pattern that will be the key to succeed...

There is also a little book, I'll find it And give you the author and title, that worked for me when I did it before it made so much sense it was a joy to ignore the cigarette as I saw this little monster going "noooo you have to, come on I have to win" you could almost see the little shirt seriously
Do we not realise that in order to find a soul

Yeah, I've been making myself wait till about 11, before I'll have my first cigarette of the day. Mornings are easier for me for some reason. We don't smoke inside because of the kids, and I quit smoking in the car. I don't even take cigarettes with me. Evenings are the hardest for me. That's when I would sit and chain smoke.

I've had 5 so far today. Not too bad & no one's been murdered or maimed.

My boyfriend sits and chain smokes on the porch in the evenings. I'm sure he doesn't have a "need" to do so, it's just so ingrained as something to do while relaxing. Like.. watching TV for me.

My dad has been a heavy smoker for 40 odd years, and a few weeks ago he quit cold turkey because all of a sudden doctors discovered he was at high risk for stroke. I think often times there has to be a motivation like that to quit. Otherwise if you seem healthy and you smoke away from everyone else... it can seem like there's little point in quitting.

Yeah, I get that. The only people I'm smoking around, are other smokers, so it's not bothering anyone. I'm left with my own will power to quit. I really don't want to wait for doctors to give me the extra motivation, though. Lol. So many people wait to quit until they're really sick, and I don't want that to be me.

I quit cold turkey over 20 years ago. I know the tobacco is more addictive now but I think if you drag it out too long with the cutting back you are very likely to get stressed about something and you are right back at it. You have to break patterns of behavior associated with smoking.

My lover is a 3 -4 pack a day smoker and is quitting. He started by stopping his coffee drinking because if he has a coffee, he has a cigarette and he knew that would mess him up. I and many people I know had to quit drinking alcohol for several years in order to quit smoking. Even if you haven't smoked for a while after a couple drinks it just seems to happen and the smoke won't bother your throat and lungs after a couple drinks like it would without.

If you usually smoke after a meal, then get up and take a walk or do the dishes. Create new behaviors. You can research the withdrawal symptoms but they vary from person to person. Its nasty, highly addictive stuff.

You CAN do it and there are SO many benefits!!! Don't give up if you slip up.

PS: He's down to about 6 smokes a day and will be really quitting in the next week! Plenty of sex helps you get through it.

WC what was his motivation for quitting? My boyfriend's the "well tried it before and didn't work, oh well" type. He's quite healthy otherwise (and is a lot more active than me in many ways)... but I'm definitely seeing its affects on him. Cough, stained teeth, bad breath... However I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me suggesting he try to quit again... sigh.

He needs a surgery and the doctors have told him they will not touch him until he has quit for several months. I added the incentive that smokers cum burns and he'll get a lot more oral if he gets it out of his system.

Hey guys. I quit smoking in Nov of 2007 (mind you I had only been smoking since 2004) Oh the peer pressures of highschool lol. Any whos me and my friends used to always try to quit smoking, but never did. We used to set short term goals. So One day I took it on my self to quit by my self. I set a goal to quit before college (Wich was Sept of 2007) A long term goal. For about a month a cut down (I smoked about 9 - 12 smokes a day) I would limit my self.
First I wasnt aloud to smoke inside so I would have to go out side - I crossed that off my list there goes 2 smokes a day
Then I would only limit my smokes to one a breaks (Inbetween classes).
I would then only smoke at school and maybe one at night So I cut down to 4 smokes a day
Then I would have "Douce" of a smoke (Which is half) with a friend a breaks
Then I would only have a puff and run back inside
I was only having a puff a day until my boyfriend told me, whats the point?
So then on I kept telling my self Whats the point.
When I has quit for a few days and wanted a smoke, I said whats the point.
I had quit for a month, I had gone for so long, what the point of smoking again.

Just tell your self once youve quit, or cut down alot. "Whats the point?"

I still get cravings But I tell myself Whats the point its been 4 years why ruin that now. And I do have access to them (my Boyfriend smokes)
