    Default Body temperature after nap

    Hi everyone!

Just a few questions here -- usually when I wake up from a nap, I feel hot and drowsy. I'm typically napping in the evenings if that makes a difference. I developed a throat infection about 4 days ago which I've been on antibiotics for for 3 days. I haven't had any other symptoms other than my right gland is swollen and it hurts to swallow (no fever, no cough, no runny nose). I took a nap tonight and woke up feeling hot, as usual. I took my temperature and its 99.8F. Oh, and to top it all off, I'm on my period.

My question is this: does anyone else experience high body temperatures after a nap? Is it possible to develop a fever 4 days after discovering an infection and being on antibiotics for 3 days? Could my period have something to do with the high temperature? I've been taking a few extra strength tylenol for the pain and headaches the throat infection is causing so a fever seems a little unlikely to me because of that. But I'm not a doctor so I don't know!

Any input would be helpful! I know that I can't get a definite answer unless I talk to a doctor but I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

    Thank you!

It sounds like it could be tonsillitis. What antibiotics are you taking? Did a doctor prescribe them? Usually the fever from tonsillitis is eliminated by the use of antibiotics in a few days. Do you have a white area or white spots in the back of your mouth?

My temperature went down after a couple of hours so I'm sure it wasn't a fever. I went back to the doctor today and he thinks its mono but I don't have any symptoms of mono other than the sore throat/swollen lymph nodes and the white spots in the back of my throat, so I think its either strep or tonsillitis. He did a swab and blood work so I'll have to wait and see! I was on amoxicillin but I had to come off of it just in case it is mono. Apparently you can get a nasty rash from the antibiotic if you have mono. I took a nap this afternoon and my temperature was normal after. Its only when I nap at night that its higher.. its strange.

    Thanks for the responses.

In strep throat there are white and dark red bands in the back of the throat. Usually amoxicillin works, but if you have taken it in the last year or two, it is not as effective, so you take another penicillin family antibiotic such as ampicillin or dicloxacillin or even penicillin VK. Follow doctor's instructions or the included instructions if obtained over the counter such as in Mexico or Asia.
