Used to get those.
Tea bags are ok, the key is a Warm Washcloth or rag, 4-6 times a day. If you can, do the older Fashioned ( Head over Steam ) go for that one.
Styes are an Infection, usually from rubbing the eye area with " Infected or Dirty " hands/ fingers. Also most, not all Styes, are on Lower eyelid, in a eyelash ( follicle ) area. I rarely had them in an upper eyelid.
Sometimes it can spread by just rubbing it, Like rubbing sleep out of your eye. It is rare that it needs lancing , but sometimes if you can put some Bacterial / or Triple antibiotic cream ( OTC ) kind. It may help speed up the healing.
The Tea Bag, can help, but remember Tea has allot of Caffeine in it, so it also can make it Bigger, Faster. Also never try to Squeeze it or " Pop " it. If it's not in the Healing Stage, you can actually Spread it.
Think of it as a Zit in the Eye lash area or a " Cold Sore " on the lips. Picking, Poking or Squeezing is not going to help.
Don't wear makeup nor liner near it, Lots of Styes come from Old Makeup. Stuff you bought like 5 years ago, or Borrowing someones...It still has " Germs" on it and Some Bacteria, can Last for Years.
Found that out awhile back . Put on some lipstick, I'd bought years ago and within 2 days had a Cold sore . I don't wear lipstick, except on " Very Special Occasions". wore Mascara too .. Yep, Krustie in the Eye area. It was Used make up.. Go Figure
