    Default Sinus Infection or what?

So the last couple of days I've been dealing with pressure behind my nose and eyes and it's been making me extremely dizzy and somewhat nauseated. Now back when I was originally getting dizzy we figured it was my birth control pills and since going off that, I'm a little confused. I haven't been sick or anything like that, I haven't had a cold in a while (knock on wood). I had to call in from work yesterday as well as the day before and I'll likely get in trouble for it since I've missed a lot due to my dizzyness before. I get dizzy and the pressure gets worse behind my sinuses when I'm standing for a while but if I'm sitting or laying down, i'm alright. I went to my doctor yesterday and she prescribed me some anitbiotics and she said it may take a few days to see any difference but I'm not wondering if it's even a sinus infection at all.

I have pressure behind my eyes and nose, and it varies how bad it is from day to day. Right now i'm a bit dizzy and lightheaded and the pressure is there and it's quite uncomfortable but I have no other symptoms of what a Sinus Infection could be. Like I said I haven't been sick or anything and I'm starting to think something else may be wrong with me. Any ideas guys?

The most prominent sign of a sinus infection is that stuffed up "my eyes hurt" type feeling. That congested feeling behind the eyes, the eyebrows, cheek bones...that whole area will feel like you just got punched in the face with all the pressure from congestion. You do not need a ton of symptoms for it to be a sinus infection, you mostly need that congested behind the eyes feeling for it to be diagnosed as a sinus infection. The other thing you can do is take one hand and make the peace sign with your fingers them, now use those peace sign fingers and push just below your eyes and level with your nostrils (you are going to be pushing the soft part of the cheek area and not the eye socket bone-you will feel the hard bone, go just below that). If that feels like some discomfort you have a sinus infection.

Your doctor should have done a simple blood test to determine if your white blood count was elevated. Did your doctor take blood? I've gotten to where I won't take the antibiotics without one because I was being prescribed antibiotic even for viral illnesses (that antibiotic don't treat). Overusing antibiotics can wreak havoc on the body. Anyway, with that said, if a blood test wasn't done then there's really no way to know if it's a sinus infection other than give it a few days and see if the antibiotics help.

I think it would benefit you to get some allergy testing done. It's possible you have a serious allergy to something and don't even know it. The result could be sinus issues, fluid behind the ears therefore dizziness etc.

Actually many doctors do not bother because in many cases the time it takes to get a blood result back from the lab a simple sinus infection will have already healed itself. The common cold usually is included with a sinus infection which means the white blood cells will be up anyway, anytime you have the slightest of immune response from something like a cold or cold like symptoms the white cell count will skyrocket so it really will not mean much on the lab report other than saying "hey the immune system is responding you have something going on" which the doctor already knows in the presenting symptoms.

A typical CBC can be processed typically within 15-20 minutes. But of course, if there is no lab present the CBC would be sent out to a lab which could then delay the results for a 2-3 days. I suppose I have gotten lucky as I've never gone anywhere they couldn't process one and get the results during the visit.

    ItsASecret:
Well, I’m not super congested like I would usually be with a cold but I do feel congested. I sneezed last night and needless to say, it hurt quite a bit. It’s kind of a tingling type feeling more so than pain but I know something isn’t right in that area. I’ve never had a sinus infection so I’m just like “is it really that?”

    BD:
No, she didn’t do any tests at all besides ask me questions. I’m glad she didn’t draw blood as much as I hate it but it would have been nice to have had some sort of test done instead of just presuming that’s what it is. I haven’t been on antibiotics in a long time for anything. I think the last time I was on any sort of antibiotic was back in 2006 or something.

She did tell me that if the pills don’t help in a few days to go back and we may need other tests to be done. What tests exactly I don’t know. I hate doctors, plain and simple.

Yeah the pain is often due to a sinus infection. They are really not that big of a deal from a medical standpoint, and they do clear up in a few days on most occasions. All you can really do is drink a lot of water, eat some foods with a lot of vitamin C, sleep good, and take some meds for the pain. You can get things like Tylenol cold and Sinus pills from the pharmacy, those work good.
