    Talking Thyroid?

Ok ladies, a little help here. About a year ago, I lost my insurance and couldnt afford to keep up with doctor visits and thyroid meds, so i have been off of synthroid for about 8 months now. Well, so far I have gained LOTS of weight, and now my period has stopped since April no monthly friend. I am having bloating in my stomach, or should I say right under my breast bone, a tightness almost, doesnt occur all the time but most of the time, is this from stopping the meds too? Does thyroid affect that much?? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!!!

The thyroid is a very important part of your body. It controls a lot of the chemical functions necessary to stay healthy. The thyroid controls your metabolism so the answer is YES. That will have a direct impact on your weight and can also effect your menstrual cycle, among other things. If you will not be on your meds any time soon and are concerned about weight, you will have to take extra steps to eat healthy and exercize. Thyroid treatment is very important so you should do whatever you have to in order to start it again. Maybe buy individual health insurance from Anthem or United Health Care. Or, if you are low income, many hospitals will offer free services or percentages.

    Smile Thx!

I will start my meds again, I have been added to my husbands insurance which is effective July 1. Hopefully I can make it that long. There is an uncomforableness (is that a word?) in my upper stomach, that wont go away, feels like I need to take deep breaths all the time. Really weird feeling, kinda like when I was pregnant, and the belly got hard (NO, I cant be pregnant I had my tubes tied 10 years ago, and yes I already did a test just to make sure!). Im fallin all to pieces, guess I need a 2007 new model! Thanks for your input!!!

I am not sure what the strange feeling is in your chest. The thyroid can have an effect on your emotions. Do you think that with the thyroid problem and the stress that you could be also suffering from anxiety? Anxiety about your health maybe? I just ask because anxiety can make your chest feel like you described. Then again, it could be a symptom of the thyroid problem. No way to know without a doctor. Hmmm....
