I have a strange thing that happens every three to four months or so. I get a very raw patch about half an inch inside my right nostril (on the inner wall) with a wart-like bump in the middle. The bump almost looks like a bit of the cartlidge is growing, pushing the skin outward. Then, it breaks through, sits there like a funky little wart for a day or two, and then falls off. It heals and nothing happens for a few months, and then it goes through the cycle again. It does not seem to be linked with colds or nasal allergies.
I have tried to explain this to my doctor, but she says she has to actually see it to make a diagnosis. I have never been able to schedule an appointment with a doc while the thing is actually there (same day appointments are reserved for the very sick around here).
I don't know about the actual wart part, but something that might help with the dryness is Vit. E spread inside the nostril. Its also great for preventing nose bleeds caused by dry air. I'm sorry I can't help any more Maybe the vit. E will at least ease some dryness. Good luck!
Well, until you know what it is... I wouldn't suggest putting anything on it. I don't think it's a wart, but if it is... some of them can be spread to other parts of the body. Warts typically grow in and stay there until you physically remove them.
It is possible that it is an ingrown hair follicle that is getting infected. Ingrown hairs get "stuck" under the skin. Then an infection grows much like a whitehead pimple. It will harden and eventually either push out or go away. Hair follicles grow in cycles which would fit your description. The root starts from no hair, goes through it's growth stage, sits for a while, and then falls out to start over again.
It could also be a clogged pore which is turning into a whitehead pimple. Often times, a pore will repeatedly get infected, swell up and burst or open up, drain out, and then start over again.
I have had the same problem for the past year.
I finally got to the doctor when it was active and he took a biopsy. It is a wart. We decided to leave it alone as after the biopsy it did not recur. However, I notice that it is starting to bother me again.
I think that I will need another visit to the doctor to find out what the next steps. Probably the same treatment method -- not looking forward to that. The biopsy was quite awkward due to the location of the wart and the 'freezing of the area' was painful.
I am just afraid that by rubbing it, I may spread the virus inside the nostril.
