Hi, I had to go into the hospital, Tuesay night because I didn't feel safe(I was scaird I was going to hurt my self). I've been there many times, but this was the firtst time my heart rate was really high. The first time they checked it it was 116, the secont time it was 120! I'm only 23 and 1/2 years old and I'm getting kinda scaird. They gave me a pill last night before I went home to make in go down down, but it feels high again today.... Also they took my blood and found I had high colesterol. Now I may not be thin-thin, but I'm only 126 pounds at 5 foot 5. And I do Tae Kwon Do like three times a week plus horses, dogs, running, soccer, etc... so I think I am in pretty good shape???.... Can Any one tell me what might be going on?

    Hi Horsecrazy,
You might want to have a blood glucose test to see what your blood sugar level is. If you have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) a symptom is tachycardia (high heart rate). You could also be suffering from anxiety that puts you in alert mode....lots of adrenaline and a resulting high heart rate.
Try not to worry...but just get checked out.

Hi Horsecrazy! Have a thyroid panel done also..an over-active thyroid will cause your heart rate to go up. When it gets high enough, it feels like a panic attack.

    Smile Hello horsecrazy

ive been searching for this thread! I recently have been getting these attacks where i can feel my heart racing. It got up to 110 when i checked it. I start to sweat really bad and my hands shake and my legs feel like jelly. It doeS feel like a panic attack but i have never had any mental health issues and it has never happened in a situation where i had a reason to panic. Like yesterday it was when i was on my way to work, one was at work and the other ones in different situations like at a store or at home. so i have not gone to the doc about this, just got married in august and moved twelve hours away...but asked my mom about it. she had dad call me and he said he had exact same symptoms when he was about my age-20.His doc told him it was actually an overactive adrenaline gland. For no reason your adrenaline gland in your throat will drip adrenaline into your heart which makes it beat really fast, like your running a race or going to get in a fight. Im not sure if you have the sweating or shaking but this is all i know about it. My dad said if they find this is what you have, they will prescribe a pill to take but he said one med they use is a depressant (not sure what the name is) he told me to try to see what else is available because not so excited to take depressant to scared it will mess me up and make me depressed. HOPE THIS HELPS!

although for your average adult 100 beats per minute is the high of the normal scale, 120 isn't terribly dangerous. There is a very good chance this is caused by anxiety. If you're having suicidal ideations, you are almost definatly having anxiety. Although I cannot legally say your fine 120 in small spurts (assuming you normally have a regular heart rate and a healthy heart), isn't a critical high. Obviously, I need to recommend you see a doctor, but there is a very good chance it's anxiety. There are many kinds of anxiety, tirggered by different things. A lot of people lump all pannic attacks together but it's really not the case. Did you have any shortness of breath, tingling sensation in hands, feet and lips, cramping and/or feel like your legs were lead weights?
