Hey everyone...I'm 24 years old and sadly I'm losing my hair. The texture and luster have drastically changed over the past couple of months. The elasticity of the hair shaft is nearly non-existent and the natural curl that I once had is gone! I've spent countless hours on the internet searching for answers...so far the closest thing I've found as an explaination is called "Telogen Effluvium"...apparently our hair goes through growth phases and resting/falling out phases...the anogen phase is the active growth phase...you can tell your hair is in this phase when you pluck a hair from your head and the bulb at the end is plump and has a dark colored tip; the next phase is called the catagen phase which is the switch from active growth to the falling out phase called the telogen phase. Telogen Effluvium is a disease that forces nearly all the hairs on your head to fall out with little or no force. Most websites suggested that this issue stems from stress...but who out there doesn't experience stress on an almost constant basis?...especially when you have two small children like I do! I am just hoping that someone else out there will have a similar experience to share with me...and hopefully someone else has some light to shed!

    hello there,
i'm sorry to hear about your problem your having. i know that a dermatologist might be able to shed some light on your problem. have you heard of alapecia? not sure if thats how you spell it, but i know it is a condition that causes you to lose your hair. do you have hair loss anywhere else on your body? how long ago did you have your last chid, because i know that after giving birth you have lots of hormone changes that can cause hair loss in women. i hope you can get some answeres to your problems. Lynne

This is my first time on this site, but this is the issue I want advice on. I am 40 and for the last two years, my hair hasn't grown at all. Everyone says "WOW you cut your hair, but I haven't, it is just breaking off, not falling out, just dying. I saw a dermatologist this morning. What have you heard?

Wow, you are fast!!! My youngest son is 12. The doctor kept talking about hair loss but it isn't falling out, just not growing. All of my friends are as dumbfounded as I am. I had to give a ton of blood today, but wait 6 weeks for any kind of answer. Thanks for replying, I've never talked toanyone on line before, it's kind of neat.
