Red face Does Anyone work as a nurse? or training to be one at the momment? I need some advice

Hiya,
Soon i am going into adult nursing at uni, i was just wondering how people have gotten on doing this course. I know how hard it is and the work etc. I just wanted to know how other people have found it.

Its something i have always wanted to do, because i love the elderly and i just love caring for people in general. I sometimes looked after my uncle when he had cancer, and he always said how good id be as a nurse. However i have never had much confidence, and im not very good at my maths if im honest, was just worrying about that part. As i am going to be a student nurse to begin with i was just wondering what sorts of things ill be doing. I am also worried about the fact that i am the youngest one in my class there all alot older than me.. and its kind of making me feel that they are going to know alot more than me and be alot better. I really want to do well at this, and dont want anything to go wrong for me.

Please just give me a few ideas of what it will be like if you know it would help me alot.

Thankyou x

I believe OG is a psychiatric nurse. He could shed some light.

I'm in the same boat as you. I actually am going into Oncology Nursing. Last yr I was a full time care giver for my Mom with Cancer. Hardest thing I ever had to do but my Mom always told me she thought I should not only be a nurse but to study oncology because of how much I studied the facts when she was sick. she always said she wants me to be what her nurses were to her. I myself am horrible with math but most people I know that have gone through nursing, they never had an issue with that part. The biggest thing is the terms you have learn. We shall venture into this together.

Are you in the UK or in the U.S.?

It's simple really....you can do everything you set your mind to.

Studying is just going to require time and effort. A&P is sheer memorization and chemistry you'll have to be able to wrap your head around abstract ideas and concepts. The math isn't too bad.

If you set yourself up for failure, you'll probably fail.

Go into it with a positive outlook. You'll be surprised what a difference your mind set will make.

That's awesome. I couldn't do anything in the medical field. I get too sad and want to fix everyone. I go to an Oncologist office every month, it's humbling, but it pulls at my heart strings. I was there just this morning, it always affects me for a few days.

I am not a nurse, but a nursing assistant. I was in nursing school a few years back but went through my divorce and had a hard time concentrating and quit. I work in a nursing home, as I have for 8 yrs now and work with the sick and elderly. I have taken care of the mentally handicapped as well. I love it, I love helping people and I love love LOVE taking care of the elderly. They make my day
