The actors studio show inspired me this question.
After thinking about it, I found it quite revealing.

So if you were to meet a historical figure, what would you ask ? and why ?

It really, really, really depends on who the historical figure is and the circumstances of the meeting. I have met some famous people in the course of my work and have limited my speech to that which was professionally required. Assuming it is a historical figure I have read about, I would as something that would go along with their field of expertise. Say for instance, I may ask Einstein: "what work did you leave unfinished that you thought you could finish."
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
    ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

    Very good question, indeed
I wonder what he would reply...

Personally when I started thinking about, there are a few I would like to meet.
The first that comes to mind is Evariste Gallois. I would ask him why he got into that duel ? Didn't he realize that what he was working on was going to change the way we see the world ?

Gallois was full of revolutionary fervor, if I remember correctly, it was also part of his father's portfolio. To him mathematics was a toy, it was so easy. But he got rejected by the top school and by the leading mathematicians of the day. Therefore, he never saw it as a way for steady work and recognition. Remember the dual was about honor, something to fight to the death for in those days. How many others lost out on making a mark on the world by such circumstances.

    Why? & What?

Why did you Mr./Ms. famous person do what you did? What was your motivation behind it?

    Rosa Parks comes to mind.

There are many, many people that all of us could think of as examples.

Any of the Founding Fathers. I'd ask them if the Constitution was intended to be the law of the land and if it was meant to be a living document as I believe it to be.
The reason; to abolish all laws against the Constitution regardless of their "good" intentions. How I wish they were alive today to see this government!
