I was diagnosed with BV during a sexual health test, was prescribed anti-biotics and promptly got thrush big time. I've had thrush a few times since my children were born, but that was the worst and hardest to clear up. Now I'm feeling like I have a low lying BV all the time, as when I'm in a relationship, and I have a mans semen in me, it smells terrible and stays like that for several days. So basically, I can't have sex again until it clears up. I'm single now and don't have that problem, but do notice that my discharge isn't clear it's granular and white. If I become sexually active again, then I'm going to worry that the same thing will happen. I have a hormone releasing IUD....despite being single I'm happy to have it there as it gives me freedom. I'm not promiscuous, but I do want that option if it presents itself without fear. I'm not happy with the vinegar douches or whatever but what about if I skip straight to the probiotic inserted into my vagina, will it promote the 'good' bacteria enough to combat the bad?

The experience for most women is, that adding "foreign" bacteria as you find them in probiotics will at most give you some relief for a short time. The better idea is to give your own good vaginal bacteria a better option to dominate, and assure a healthy vagina.
This is done by "feeding" them with milk sugar. It makes them grow, and they use it to produce the acid, that keeps the vagina sound.
Lactose in a convenient formulation is available

Default H2O2 douche and L. crispatus possible natural cures for bacterial vaginosis

I tried out the hydrogen peroxide H202 douche and I also taking HLC MindLinx supplements containing L. crispatus. I'm taking the crispatus capsules orally daily and vaginally twice a week. I just started so I'll see how it goes. Definately feel fresher with the H202 douche. (edited) Research proves that it's more effective at combating bacterial vaginosis than acidophilus because the crispatus produces more H2O2.

    Default I too understand

    Hi there
You arent alone, I too understand and felt the same way you are feeling, what got me to see my gyno was a male doctor who didnt understand my condition and my angst. I tried everything from changing pills, to cutting sugar out, and still getting it.

I believe Strep B and BV are the same and I have this and I too get it about the same time, I suggest see a gyno and get answers.

My partner is really awesome and understanding in many ways, please dont break up with your bf, its not worth the emotional pain of loosing the one you love over this. I too felt I was depriving my partner and do feel upset from time to time as I too get frustrated about always being in pain before and after my cycle.

Hang in there and let me know how you go.

i am also divorced and i put it partially down to our non existant sex life after i got these symptoms! i have sex with my boyfriend when i feel of but i always got to the toilet stroight after and wash down below. god love him he must think im weird as i run to the bathroom stright after!
i have got some tips from this site which i thank you for.have just ordered bio fem and the biotic capsules.... cant remember the name!
i just want the consultant to say yes this is what you have and this is how we are going to treat it, but every time i go back they pan me off with something else. i mean they sent me for a kidney scan which i didnt understand as my pain and burning is in my vagina. i also get back pain and throbbing at the tops of my legs...is this common as well!
i would really really really really appreciate any feed back that you may be able to give. i am just happy to see that its not only me suffering as at the beginning i was thinking it was in my head!

thank you for reading my thread.

    take care.x

I apparently had BV all throughout my teenage years and was completely unaware - I didn't even realize this condition existed. As I had had it since the start of menstruation, I thought the fishy smell and white discharge were simply a normal part of womanhood. Well, since now I don't have hardly anything but just clear, more watery discharge, I did some googling and found some stuff out:

BV: If you have a fishy smelling, usually whitish, discharge, with no pain, it is likely bacterial. Antibiotics can certianly kill this, but may cause a yeast infection due to the destruction of good bacteria in the vagina along with the destruction of the bad bacteria overgrowth causing the condition.

Yeast infection: If you have a baked bread smell, with burning/itching/irritation, it is usually yeast, which is a completely different animal.

Yeast needs to be treated with an anti-fungal while the bad bacteria needs an antibiotic.

Although, increasing the natural good bacteria and producing a perfect pH in the vagina is the best way to reduce the chances of either of these above conditions. Douching with a non-sugar plain yogurt for a few days in a row should help the production of these good bacteria. Eating it will as well.

I have been dealing with yeast and bacterial vaginosis every month for over 4 years.
    I am finally getting relief.
I have tried soooo many different things from natural remedies to antibiotic pills, cremes, and gels.

Your immune system needs your help to fight this off!

Antibiotics just seem to keep the cycle going by killing off your good bacteria and fighter cells, leaving one infection just to start up another infection.
Medicinal Douching (with herbs) is recommended, but the influx of that much water just seems to make it worse for me, so I apply small amounts with a Q-tip.

Here are things that made drastic differences for me
for both bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections:

BEST ONE SO FAR FOR YEAST: RAINBOW LIGHT Brand CANDIDA CLEANSE, taken first thing in the morning EVERY DAY to ensure best absorption on an empty stomach
I use the Rainbow Light in conjunction with
Enzymedica Brand "Virastop" or their "Candidase"

******All of the following are diluted w/purified water and applied internally to the vagina with a Q-tip******

I keep the diluted mixes in the fridge in new/clean jars or glass bottles with lids.

    -Apple cider vinegar (diluted)

    and/or

-Tea Tree oil (one drop is strong enough when diluted w/water)

    and/or

    - Hydrogen peroxide (diluted or full strength). Hydrogen peroxide is naturally produced in the vagina as part of the cleaning process, and acidophilus is a naturally present health helper in the vagina

    and/or

-Yin Care Herbal Wash, cheapest on: taoofherbs.com

    and/or

-Chien Chin Chih Tai Wan, Great Wall brand of Chinese herbs in pill form

-Acupuncture has helped a great deal in combination with the all of the above

I ALWAYS ALTERNATE THE ABOVE METHODS WITH
Applying acidophillus powder mixed with water (from a capsule- $10 for 90 capsules) Try Primadophilus Nature's Way brand or Multidophilus from Solaray

Emotional stress makes my symptoms worse.
Cut back on sugar, as this taxes the immune system and also feeds yeast cells.
Bulk up your immune system on a regular basis with Vitamin C, Folic acid, and a good brand of Acidophilus (I prefer Nature's Way Brand PRIMADOPHILUS)

Sure is comforting to know I'm not alone in this. I wondered if my BV was due to bad tear after 2nd child. I had at least 1 pocket that they originally thought was a fistula. It turned out to be a deep pocket that was harboring bacteria. Makes me wonder if I have more of these pockets. Also, my doctor recommended a vaginal estrogen cream since I've had a hysterectomy, but it was $100 a month! Anybody tried the estrogen cream for BV?

    Question Folic Acid/B12

400mg Folic Acid combined with Vitamin B12 has a lot of really good feedback on some other BV blogs.
Start with between 400mg - 1600mg of Folic Acid
I believe the B12 is to help with the absorption of the Folic Acid.
    I'm getting some vitamins tomorrow!

    Default BV Improvement, Naturally

I also wanted to add that what has been working now for the BV for me for the past 2+ months (which is a HUGE span of time compared to the everyday or 2 week-long intervals I was dealing with before),

TEA TREE OIL combined with one dropperfull of
    COLLOIDAL SILVER
diluted in a water mixture and applied several times a day with a Q-tip

The odor and most of the itching are gone, but there is still excess clear discharge, which is why I am adding FOLIC ACID/B12

I am also staying on the Candida Cleanse tablets to keep away any yeast.

Just wanted to share this again to let you know that I have steady improvement for the first time in 4 years!
