for a bout 2 months i have had a creamy discharge with kind of a fishy odor. i have never had a yeast infection and thought that maybe thats what i had, so i bought a one day cream. it kinda seemed to work but came back a few days later. so i went to the hospital and the did a pap and there was no yeast or bv. a week later i went to my p.c. and she did another pap with the same results. i just recently began to notice that the symptoms appear after i have sex with my husband..not right away but the next morning. i had my tubes tied a couple of years ago so needless to say i dont always use condoms, if i dont use one and my husband ejaculates in me, the next day is when the problem starts. sometimes after sex we just go to bed. sometimes i get up right after sex i run to the bathroom to wipe myself down there but sometimes i dont. so normally i would just assume that i should just go to the bathroom after sex however this problem just started and weve been together for 10 years with no problems down there.. so i guess im just wondering what the problem could be if all test results have come back negative, there is no itching or burning, what the heck is wrong down there???

Semen, when left in the vagina for several hours, can produce a really unpleasant, fishy odor, especially after "stewing" in vaginal fluids. Your body could be reacting differently now than before because of hormone changes due to age or having children. If you're testing negative for bacteria or yeast overgrowth, it's probably just the semen.

This sounds really simple and dismissive, but I had a young, inexperienced gynecologist insist I had a vaginal infection despite negative tests, and he ran a million tests for std's and whatnot because I had a "vaginal discharge with odor". I was 19 and very sexually active, and finally, after months of prescribed antibiotics for no good reason, causing yeast infections that then needed to be treated... I had an older gynecologist from the same clinic call me into his office to apologize for the "inconvenience" (HA!!) caused by his new doctor who couldn't recognize "the common odor of putrid semen".

Bathing or douching with a pH balanced formula or distilled water - NOT a vinegar douche - after sex should help.
