Let me explain:

I've had a heavy yellow discharge for a year and a half now, which is often accompanied by a slight irritation. I've been to 3 different doctors--tested negative for all STDs, been treated for cervicitis, and also treated for BV multiple times. HOWEVER, each time I was treated for BV, the doctor never actually saw that I *have* BV. They simply gave me the meds because they weren't sure what else to treat me for. I also have no odor, which is (from what I've heard/read) one of the prominent symptoms.

Now, on another message board I visit (not gynecology related at all) I read a post from a woman who was in the same boat as me, and the doctors never actually found anything wrong with her. Recently she got an ear infection, and was prescribed Amoxicillin (sp?), and it magically got rid of her discharge and irritation. Now I'm wondering if a different medication (all I've ever been given for "BV" is Flagyl) would actually get rid of the problem.

Is it possible to have bacteria creating an infection in the vagina, but not necessarily have bacterial vaginosis--bacteria that wouldn't be killed by Flagyl but may by something else? Is BV a specific type of bacteria?
