    Question Ruptured cyst and Period

Hi my name is Casey and I am just not understanding what is going on with my body I guess. I will just get to the problem in hopes of some insite. Dec. 24 (christmas eve) I had the worst pain in my life. Dec. 26 (day after christmas) I went to the ER and found out I had been in severe pain for 2 days due to a Ruptured ovarian cyst on the left side. When the doc. pushed in I will put it this way I could not even remember what I did it hurt so bad my husband says I came off the exam bed. I had an ultrasound done and CT both showed fluid on the left side. Now I started my period Dec. 30 suppose to have started Dec. 26. I stopped on Jan. 6. Since then I have had a brownish discharge. I have seen this before. So I wasn't too worried till today Jan. 11 I woke things were fine we ran errands and came home. I went to bathroom and there was a lot of brownish discharge. I get more clothes from hubby because it did go through. Looked in the potty and there was red blood. drippys of it. So I take a shower. In the shower I was passing somewhat of a clot. One was smaller than a dime size, which looked like a clot but had some fleshy appeal to it. Other wise brownish. I am having some slight cramps. But not bad at all. Lower back pain alot just discomforting though. I am using a pad but there is hardly anything on it. I only seem to bleed when I sit on the potty. Also my husband and I have had sex in the past week 2x's and both no protection. I guess I am not sure exactly what is going I called a nurse line and she said that I could be pregnant but I am not even sure that my body would allow that to happen concidering the ruptured cyst. I have done some research and all of which say you can't pass a ruptured ovarian cyst. But I could swear I heard the ultrasound tech tell me I would be passing it soon. So me and hubby believe its just the cyst. I have looked so much up I am finding implantation bleeding but I am not sure. Maybe someone could help.

    Default Update: ruptured cyst

This is Casey again. I just wanted to post that this moring I wake up and again no red blood... and I am not cramping. I had a pad on all night but there isn't much of anything on it. I wipe and its a brownish color. The only other thing I have noticed is the past couple of days I have had this sharp pain just below my tailbone. I don't know what could possibly be going on. Thanks if you respond.

    Thanks..Casey

Default was told I have cyst

Please keep updated on what happens, also if you are pregnant. I have been having problems also. But some what different. I haven't had a period since Nov., look and feel pregnant, sore breast also. I have had some pressure in my lower stomach and sometimes pain. Anyway...
Went on Monday had Ultrasound and blood work done. They also did a Transvaginal Scan on me. Anyway I could tell the guy needed to tell me something but couldn't, had to wait for the Doc. Well, this is what I know at this time. I have several cyst on my ovaries and also there was a sac, which the Doc thinks is a Ectopic Pregnancy. What is strange all of my home pregnancy test have come back negative and they also did a Qualitative Pregnancy Blood Test which came back negative. So the Doc ordered a Quantitative Pregnancy Blood Test. This test can actually measure the exact amount of hCG in the woman's blood. I'm waiting on the results for that one. I'm also waiting on the rest of the blood work they did. Hopefully I will know everything by the end of week. Oh yeah, also after the Transvaginal Scan, I started spotting, it was dark. Now I'm bleeding some, not heavy, a little more then spotting so I don't know what is going on. I don't think I'm pregnant. I just wish the Doc would call me and tell me all of my results and what she thinks is going on. I still look pregnant, feel pregnant and my breast still hurt. Who knows?
    God Bless, Donnalynn

    Hi Casey -

I'm not sure if a ruptured ovarian cyst would cause you not to ovulate - that's the big question. If you ovulated, and you had sex, there is a chance you are pregnant. There is also a chance that you the pregnancy began but did not adhere, and that could be the clot you saw. I'm just guessing here. You could definitely bleed lightly if it is actually implantation. I would buy an early response pregnancy test over the counter and see what it shows.

I'm just thinking if the cyst ruptured on Dec. 24-26, why would you bleed now, when you already bled during your period? So maybe a pregnancy test is the way to go for now.

ovarian cysts are caused generally by the egg not releasing from the ovary. It clings to the end and absorbs and fills with fluid. When it bursts, I find that I too have a lot of sharp pain. (went to the er and had the most horrific internal ultrasound of my life) I find that after the cyst has burst I am wiping brown discharge but nothing enough to wear any form of protection. I have had fleshy/bloody clots pass in the shower and toilet and they are usually the size of pocket change. It may not be the answer you are looking for but know that you are not alone. Good luck and do lots of research. Keep us all updated on how you are doing.

I am looking for answers on abnormal bleeding as well. I have had cysts before but I have never seen blood afterwards. The cysts are the main reason I went on birth control but a year and half ago I stopped taking them due to their high price. I usually go to my primary care Physician’s Assistant for my woman exam and the pap came back normal in May. Now I have abnormal bleeding and I am freaking out. I had no time to schedule a doctor’s appoint and now that I scheduled it for this Tuesday, I did start my normal period. Oh did I mention I got a yeast infection on top of the abnormal bleeding, can it get any worse! Question: should I go to my appointment with my PA on Tuesday even though I am on my period…. How uncomfortable would that be! My main fear is now that I want to have kids and I am getting married this summer (I am 34), I am afraid something will go wrong and I won’t get to have kids. Thoughts of a cysts sound more comforting than uterine cancer or something scary like that. The only other time I had abnormal bleeding is when I found out my thyroid was not producing right and it caused my hormones to get off schedule. I am due for blood work anyways. I want to start going to a new woman doctor ob gyn but trying to get an appointment takes forever and I want answers now. Please let me know what the doctor says about bleeding after a cyst since I have a past with cysts already. Also, you would think they could see an Ectopic Pregnancy during an ultrasound but I hope the quantitative exam tells you yes or no. I also hope that the results don’t take too long because this “not knowing” what is wrong is no fun at all.

    Default Ruptered Cyst

I recently (six days ago) went to the ER with a ruptered cyst; I am feeling better but am supposed to be getting my period by now; could I be pregnant in light of this recent er trip? My belly is enlarged, and so are my boobs (as well they seem sore). If I was pregnant would a test be too soon at this point?

You could ask your doc if it's too soon. With some tests they can tell right away.
