Are you sure you aren't talking about the nipple opening where milk would come out if you were pregnant? Because that can sometimes look a little different then an actual hole.

It would be normal to have some soreness if they were bitten too hard. Tell him not to be so rough with them. They can take a lot of pulling and pressure, but he could cause damage if he does it too hard.
