    Hi,
Im 15 and considering asking my mother to take me to a Gynecologist. I've had a nasty smell coming from my vagina for years now, but I've always thought it was natural until my friends and I were talking about it the other day. After I take a shower or bath and am extra careful to wash the smell out, it always comes back within 24 hours. I am a virgin so I know it has nothing to do with sex. I just want it to go away because it's embarrassing even though no one has smelled it yet. I am very scared to go to the Gynecologist because what if she smells it and hates me or something for it. I just dont know what to do.

A gynecologist has seen it all, don't worry about how she will react, there's always worse.

I think it would be a good idea to ask your mother to take you to the Dr or at least talk to her about it. And sometimes, we are more self conscious about these matters and they tend to be not as bad as they seem.

If you kick her in the face while she is examining you the doctor may hate you, otherwise it's rather unlikely.

Good air flow can make a difference. Do you wear breathable fabrics such as cotton? Nylon or polyester undies can be a problem, so can pants that are tight in the crotch.

I mostly wear cotton panties, and a pair of blue jeans. I just wish she didnt have to see my face when I go see her.

How often do you change your panties in a day? (You may not answer)

How do you wash them - what detergent do you use, do you dry your panties with dryer sheets, do you use a fabric conditioner with them?

What kinds of food do you frequently eat? How is your water intake? Do you take medications?

Your doctor is the best person to tell you what is going on. Be ready with your questions and your observations/description of your symptoms/complaints.

It might be different things causing such. Avoid using scented body soaps, just use a plain soap with no added moisturizers, scents, dyes or flower chunks. Just use plain soap and clean water to remove odor. Lets face it the area down there needs to “breathe'' the best way to do that is to wear natural 100% cotton underwear. The food we eat have odorous oils that end up being secreted in sweat. The more fat we ingest, the more oils are secreted. Vegetarians will have less sweat odor than meat eaters unless they are consuming a lot of pungent, spicy foods. Skin bacteria can also react with sweat and produce noxious odors. At the end it all comes to this, discuss it all with your mother and perhaps make an appointment to see a gynecologist. You should not be embarrassed!! It's something many of us deal with, by going to the gynecologist it might help you solve your problem faster. Gynecologists go thru many patience and have seen all kinds of things. Before you go in for your gynecologist appointment you may want to take a pen and paper and write down all of the questions you would like answered. Give it a try.
