    Question Confused and need help!

Hi, i'm new to the forum, and im not sure whether this is the right catergory to post under. Well, here goes nothing...

For the past 2 months i've been getting a horiible odour coming from my vagnia, the only way that i can discribe it is a fishy smell. I have good hygeine, i shower once a day, and sometimes twice if i have a rough day at work. I wear cotton underwear, and whilst in the shower, i dont scrub and bath too much, as i've been told this is bad for bacteria imbalance. Ive been to my GP numerous times, and the nurses have taken swabs every time. They told me there's nothing coming up in the results that i should worry about, but i still wasn't convinced. Therefore, i went to see the gynecologist. The nurses there also took swabs and tested for STD's, but all tests were negative. I did ask whether it could be BV, and they said that they wouldnt test for it cos the signs were'nt there whilst they tested and examined me.

I've had thrust throughout most of my teenage years, but now, it doesnt seem to occur anymore. Just the horrible fishy oddour. I am sexually active, and ive been with my Boyfriend for 7 months. I also notice when we have sex that is penis smells fishy also, the only thing that i can think of is that it can be an infection of some sort or BV, but the tests and swabs say otherwise. I'm pretty confused to what my problem could be, does anyone have any suggestions for me, or something to lead me onto the right path.

    Many Thanks.

Just go and demand the BV test. It's not up to the doctors if you're worried about something and want to get it checked.

It could also be that you just naturally have strong smell down there.

I've never smelt like that before. I just fins it odd that me and my partner smells the same, he's had tests done previously and nothing as shown up, all tests were negative, same for me. Il definitley go back to the gynercologist and request a test for BV. Do you know whether its possible that my partner could catch it from me?

Is that a new partner? Have you experienced it with any other partners?

I've had BV only twice in my life and while BV is not considered to be an STI the first time I got it was right after the first time I didn't use any protection with this one partner.
The doctor told me it could be that it's just that our bacteria don't go well together.
And another doctor said 'ugh it's just men, they sleep around and collect all sorts of bacteria'. Anyway I was also told that BV bacteria can not show up in test results in men and they might not have any symptoms at all.

I don't know if it can be passed on or if its the bacteria not going well together business, but I believe I didn't develope mine on my own. I never had anything like it before the partner and I haven't had it after him, so...go figure.
