Can You "Catch" A Yeast Infection From Something? (Read Post...)

I'm 22, sexually active (with just my boyfriend - can't be pregnant though; I don't know if my sexuality is part of the issue, however). I think I potentially have contracted a yeast infection, because lately I'm noticing alot of thick yellow/white discharge in my vaginal area and panties, along with having itching and general discomfort (feels like it's dry sometimes, even though it's not due to the discharge). Since I started noticing this a few days ago, I've tried to pay extra close attention to keeping cleaned up, but the discharge keeps appearing. At first, I wondered if it was maybe a urinal tract infection because I've had those before and I recall them being associated with an intense burning "having to pee" feeling, which I've had on and off along with these symptoms (whether or not I actually did have to go).

And now to the question in the thread title... I thought maybe it wasn't a UTI because awhile back (like a few months ago actually), I was having similar symptoms but worse, to the point that intercourse was painful when it normally was not. When I realized it was becoming and issue, I saw a doctor and she tested me for a few common STD's and STI's. All came out clean, with the exception of a yeast infection, which I got the proper medication for, and in a week or so, I was just fine. Now... during this time, I recall using a particular bottle of KY jelly (just the normal cold kind, for moisture/lubricant). Then I had set it aside in my bathroom not too long ago, and within the past month or so, I had started using it again. I hadn't cleaned it up or anything (which was probably a big no no since it looked like some of the dried up lube stuff was around the lip of the bottle, which I was touching to my fingertips, and back and forth to my vagina). So I wonder, is it possible to have been re-infected by my old yeast infection this way?

The KY jelly, you could be allergic to, it's not un-common to get a yeast infection from them, I can't recall what's in there that creates that but your Chemist will guide you to one that won't.

It sounds as if you use condoms, but I'm not sure, as you state you were tested for STD's and STI's. If, you are not using condoms then a yeast infection is passed back and forth to each partner, and a male doesn't actually necessarily realise he has it.

He also needs to obtain cream for Thrush and clear it, it's likely that he's giving it back to you.

That's my thought as well. It's important that if you have a yeast infection and do continue to have sex, wear a condom, because he can catch it and never know it. It just goes back and forth, back and forth.

They don't Mes, if your partner has it, then you have it, if you are sexually active without a Condom.

A woman can get it by alot of things lets face it, wearing tight jeans, for instance can cause it.

But, the male doesn't realise he has it, he doesn't usually get red, sore, itchy... he may feel somethings not quite right, but it's still a germ and it gets passed on and it goes back and forth until both parties are treated.

If he was to be itchy, sore, red, I am sure that they would be able to determine from ouch a swab test, what it is... there I am glad I am a woman

So you're saying you can't get a yeast infection that way, even if by some chance, infected stuff had got on the bottle and I had unintentionally put it back onto myself? That's the main thing I'm wondering about, whether I should just toss the bottle...

Also I don't know whether I could have an allergy to it, because I did get an infection when using it around that time; though I do commonly use that type for moisture when I get kind of dry sometimes during periods (sometimes, albeit less often for sexual/masturbation purposes... typically, I'd use a warm lube). The product in general, I mean; not only that particular bottle I have of it. If allergy was an issue by the way, is there a way to test for it? And what ingredient in particular would trigger an allergic reaction?

By the way, my boyfriend and I have been in a serious monogamous relationship for about three years; we don't use condoms. He actually willingly got tested for most of that stuff around that time too, to make sure he hadn't contracted anything bad in his past that he was unaware of and giving to me. He came out clean for everything he got tested for, but didn't also get tested for yeast infections or UTI's like I did.

The thing is that I often get yeast infections these days, and if my partner does have it, how can we know?? If they can't test him for it, how is he supposed to get antibiotics or whatever other treatment? Ehh.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I've read that men can just use the OTC cream and it works just fine.

No, I am saying you "can" get (let's call it Thrush), from your lubrication, you can be allergic to it, and this will mean itching, redness, sore even swollen.. Then that becomes "thrush" and as such, will get passed onto your boyfriend, back to you, back to him and so on. Until, you both get rid of it.. Toss the bottle and also speak to your chemist and tell them you "think" your allergic to that brand and what's in it, they will explain to you which ones don't have that ingredient/s in it.

See above. You probably are senstive and need to use one that doesn't have some of the contents that the general lubes have.

Speak to your chemist and they will give you an alternative one that is for sensitive ladies and off course re-treat the thrush, both of you, then you can see if the new lube is your solution to not getting it repeated.

Mes, Monistan cream is good enough for him to (you to) rub over his um doo dar... whilst you also can use that or it comes in a tablet form with cream as well, the tablet takes 1 day apparently but some people have to use cream as well for another day or two, once a day for him should be enough to kill the germs..

You may be repeatedly getting it for the same reason, he is passing it back to you un-knowingly.

hi GIRL, i think i have the same problem like you but i think i had it worst then you, you sould see your doctor again, cause maybe the "yeast" not completely gone,do you see your doctor after your finish your treatment?
