Hey, i think this is in the right section
I'm 17 years old and basically my periods were going on too long (36 days, 1 week break and then 22 days). So i went to see my Dr who sent me for an Ultrasound and hormone blood tests. The ultrasound was fine, but the blood tests showed raised testosterone. My Dr has put me on Utovlan to control my periods whilst she speaks to an expert. (I can't go on the pill because of migraine.)
What can cause raised testosterone in women?
I've read stuff about pituiatry and adrenal problems but i find it all way confusing, so if someone could explain to me id be really greatfulWould it have been the testosterone that caused my long periods?
Thanks for your help x
hi,
im 22 years old. ive been battling compleatly irregular periods since i was eleven. i can bleed for two months (or more) straight. the pill lightens the bleeding (normally heavy to the extreme) but does not remove it. however, blood tests also show i have raised testesterone. to be truthful, untill recently doctors told me 'id grow out of it' with no understanding of how debilitating it is to always feel 'distracted'. For instance, i would never go to a hotel without spare sheets - just in case. and events such as festivals with sparse access to bathrooms are a no-no.
none-the-less, recently i went to see a specialist in endrocrinology (im irish so i went to see HER in UCH Galway) who confirms that i prob have pcos. she was lovely, basically pointing out that im not alone, that i tick 70% of the 'boxes' but not the others because i am not overweight (this is how most people discover the condition as symptoms get more severe). Releif. im normal. she has reccomendeed the marinea coil instead of the pill to regulate and ease the bleeding. its not perfect but its worth a try!
hope my story gives you some hope that at least there are others out their like you. i'd love to be able to reccomend more 'causes' but all the research ive done has only confirmed to me that doctors only know the basics of what wmen can suffer from! the same symtoms could be anything so i'd hate to leave you on a false track. looking up pcos and endrimotrosis is a good start though.
have you tried the pill to regulate? it has helped me. hope you find a solution hun.
:-)
