Concerned about old blood discharge

Please help!! I am 18 years old and am concerned about my old blood discharge. I had my period a while ago and ever since I've had a brown discharge (for about 10 days now). This is very irregular for me and I've never had this kind of discharge before. I was thinking that this would be for only a couple of days, but I'm coming up to two weeks now. Also, I'm self-conscious all the time because of the smell! I wear a lite tampon now since it is starting to leak through my pants.
Also, my boyfriend of two years and I do have sexual activity but not vaginal sex. (I wasn't sure if that was something you needed to know).

I was wondering how long until this will finally go away?
Is something wrong with me?
Is this a one time thing or will this happen every time I have a period now?

Are you on birth control? I'm on the depo, and i have extremley long periods with it. i had a brownish red discharge for about 2 weeks until my period started. i wouldn't get too worried yet, if it keeps going for another week i'd call the gyno office and ask to speak to a nurse and ask her about it. =)
