discharge & irritation--ever heard this explanation???
To all the ladies who, like me, have been suffering long-term from discharge and irritation and have been continuously treated (unsuccessfully) with antibiotics and antifungals: has your doctor ever offered the explanation of being "allergic" to a certain man or men?
I saw a new doctor last night for a second opinion (my regular gyno wanted me to get laser surgery and I didn't trust that decision), and he explained that I may be having a long-term allergic reaction to...well, men.
This explanation came after I told him how my symptoms started after I ended one relationship and then had sex with a new boyfriend. He said some women are allergic to some men's body oils and, while the reaction usually doesn't last 2 years (how long I've had my symptoms), it's still highly plausible this would explain what's happening to me.
Has anyone else ever heard this before?
Not in exactly that sense... But I did have a friend who was having a difficult time getting pregnant and it was determined that she was allergic to her husband's sperm... Her body was rejecting his sperm. Crazy, huh?
So, I do honestly think that it is very possible.

It is possible to be allergic to a particular man's semen but there's a sure fire way to find out, if you're still seeing the guy (I'm assuming you are or if it was an allergic reaction to him it would have gone) use a condom for a while so you're not exposed to his semen.
No, I'm not with the same guy. My current boyfriend and I use a condom every time, though. The doc said when women experience this kind of "allergic reaction" it's possible for it to linger long after the initial bout of intercourse that sparked it to begin with.Originally Posted by Sarah001
I've heard of that actually. Allergic reactions and semen throwing the vaginal pH off. Once it's out of whack even just a little, it's a huge pain in the butt to get back on track.
I guess you have been sexually active during the 2 years you've had the discharge and irritation? I've had a constant discharge for almost as long and all tests are normal, but I have lots of WBC and no one can figure it out. I haven't had sex since it began, but I have given the bf oral. I wonder if that could still have the same effect? I don't see how it would since it's a vaginal infection, but who knows...
