When I was 17 (approximately), I had my first gynecological exam. During the exam, the doctor digitally penetrated me anally. He did not warn me or tell me what he was doing. I was surprised, and it was painful. He just did a quick sweep and did not linger though. I am 35 now, and no gynecologist has done that since. Is doing that ever part of an obstetricians exam? And if not, should I report the incident? If so, who would I report it to in NJ?

What do you mean 'digitally penetrated'?

Anyways, by doing a rectal exam, Dr's can feel both sides of your ovaries. I've had it done, generally if it is a new Dr or during a pregnancy. Not all Dr's do them, but some do. He should of, however, told you that he was going to do it.

What you experienced was a rectal exam, which often does accompany a woman's yearly gynocological exam. The only slight abnormality about the rectal exam was your age. Normally, (at least in my neck of the woods) a woman doesn't have this as part of her exam until she in in her 30's or 40's. Some doctors, I suppose, will do this at every gyno exam, regardless of age... but it is a standard procedure.

So no, you weren't violated and there is no need to report anything. Unpleasant as it may be, it was a medical procedure. If you're questioning why you haven't had one since, you should ask the doctor that examines you now about it...

I read "digitally" meaning the doctor's fingers, or digits... but I suppose there could be something more indepth to it!

Thanks everyone for the info and peace of mind.

It was just so strange to me that I have been examined by 6 different gynos since that first experience and no one else did that.

I was reading a horrific article about the pediatric pedofile, and I guess it led me to relive that first exerience.
