Default ahhhh! yeast/bv cycle, what do I do?!

I am just at my wit's end. I feel so helpless and my doctors can't seem to figure anything out.

I've had some sort of BV for a year and a half. Nothing grows out on cultures, but there are occasionally some 'clue' cells. I've been on every medication under the sun. Nothing helps. I'm currently on metrogel for 6 months. I think I'm somewhere in my 2nd month (1 day a week) and within the past 3 weeks, I have had TWO yeast infections! I never had one in my life before a couple of weeks ago. Also, I've 'diagnosed' these yeast infections myself. I emailed my doctor and he said it sounded like it...the cottage cheese discharge and burning is a pretty good indication.

I just don't know what to do. It was bad enough dealing with this mystery vaginal infection for so long without relief, but now yeast on top of it? I took a diflucan I had laying around yesterday, so hopefully it'll kick in sometime within the next few days.

How do I end this cycle?! Why am I having these yeast problems now? I've been on the metrogel and other meds many, many times before and NEVER had a yeast infection

I'm just so frustrated. Sick of crying myself to sleep. Just want this to go away and be normal again. What can I do to help myself that these doctors haven't already tried?

Also, has anyone ever tried anything out of those 'natural remedy' sort of books. They are probably scams, but at this point, I'd be willing to try just about anything.

If you wanna try some natural remedies, I think google will be more useful than spending money on books!

Back when your BV started, did anything else change in your life? Did you change birth control methods, or start using a different type of soap, anything at all?

Everything started with a severe UTI. I was on birth control at the time (OTC and then switched to OTC-Lo) and was sexually active. The UTI went away but I was left with supposed BV. It was a sour smelling discharge that just wouldn't go away and still hasn't. I stopped taking the birth control pills, have abstained from sex since, I use all hypoallergenic soaps. I have no idea what brought it on and why it hasn't gone away in well over a year. I'm a healthy individual as far as I know. Maybe a little under weight, but still healthy. It started when I was 20 so I don't think it's a hormone issue.

I've had numerous cultures and tests done, nothing shows up, all normal. I just have a lot of white blood cells and once in a while there are 'clue cells' but not every time. I went to an allergist and had my Ige and SED rates checked, my thyroid checked, some other things checked, all normal. No allergies, though I have Celiac Disease. I've been gluten free for a good 10 years though. No STDs, no diabetes, no nothing. My pH has also been normal the entire time which completely confuses my doctors....

Do you take Acidophilus? You should if you don't, 3 capsules a day of the highest amount of good bacteria you can find. While the months of metrogel should kill the bv bacteria it will obviously kill the lactobacillus too so you need to work hard on replacing that as you go. It may not be enough to prevent further thrush attacks but it should help some. If it doesn't help you'll probably have to treat each thrush attack as you get it with diflucan and start the acidophilus at the end of the metrogel treatment to get some balance back.

I do take acidophiuls and have been for years. Doesn't seem to make any difference.

My doctor wants me to stop taking the metrogel for my 'supposed' BV and go on Boric Acid suppositories for 10 nights.

Has anyone ever used this before? Any success? Seems like a weird thing to be putting in my vagina =/

Default cronic bv and yeast also sigh

I have cronic vaginosis sometimes with yeast infections sometimes without. I am 27 and have 2 children via c section and the vaginosis started 3 years ago just after having my second daughter. I also got giardia (sp?) at some point in there too. the itch is so pervasive especially after sex that i dont want to have sex just to avoid the itch. no strange smells or discharges. i use all free and clear laundry soap and free and clear dryer sheets.i wear cotton underwear and loose fitting pants. i take a daily acidophilus chewable tablet to hopefully keep the yeast at bay but it doesnt help much.. the doctor haas given my do many difulcan and metroconizole (sp?) that i think i should be excreeting it in my sweat by now... sigh if anyone can offer and ideas.

    Default went to doctor

i went to my OB/GYN and she tested the mucus from inside, and told me there was no bacteria or viruses that she could see. so she gave me a flier for vulvar itch therapy and told me that because i had had bv and yeast so many times my entire vaginal area was irritated. and needed some steroidal ointment to calm it down.

"Ahhh!" is how I feel too! I Just finished my second round of antibiotics. I've had bv twice in the past 4 months now I think I have a yeast infection but am not. I don't know if I should wait to ask me doctor or just go ahead and treat the maybe-yeast-infection with something over the counter. What do you think?
