I'm 20, turning 21 in August. I would think I'm healthy although I haven't seen a doctor in about 3 years, but that will change hopefully in a few weeks and I've never been to a gyno in my life (sad, I know) but will change too.

But I noticed this and this has been going on for a few years. And it took me forever to try and think what was wrong. When I drink a lot of sodas or anything with high acid or sugar, it burns/stings after I pee and sometimes before, but never during and I'll have to keep peeing every so often after that first urination because it feels there's a little bit of urine left. I know it sounds like a UTI, but I've never had UTI symptoms before, I don't think.

But once I start drinking some water, after awhile it doesn't have these symptoms. I also early signs of GERD (acid reflux disease so I do get high amounts of acid in my stomach and throat most of the time)

Could it be a sensitivity to acid in soda?

Some people are very sensitive to acid, my partner had an op a few years ago for GERD and he has to avoid acidic things like the plague. The solution is to avoid acid so water instead of soda etc.

I'm sorry... but "the plague"? I assumed this was partially my stomach since I have a high level acid in my stomach all the time. I'm on Omeprazole everyday, but it can only do so much and much of it is counted on me to watch what I eat and drink so... I guess water is a good choice.

"Avoid acidic things like the plague" as in he has to make sure he doesn't eat or drink particularly acidic foods and drinks, he too takes medication but it doesn't help him much if he doesn't avoid acid. It can also make urine very acidic because obviously the whole system is relevant and what goes in must come out! He drinks alot of milk because it's alkaline.

Oooh, I drink soymilk. But I can drink about two sodas and I feel the acid in it after I've urinated, so maybe one a day will be ok and then water the rest of the day. I drink powerade at work and it doesn't seem to bother me too much.

If the soda causes the burning like that then I would advise to stop. I have acid reflux and I figured I could have the odd soda or acidic food anyway and now I regret it, I am on meds which stop working if I forget them for even one day, the pain from even lying down still comes and goes, and flare ups from certain foods still happen, and then I have to go in for an endoscopy (they put a camera down your throat to see how much the acid has torn apart your stomach and esophagus). I do not wish the pain of GERD or other acid reflux disease on anyone so if you feel it starting now just stop consuming the things that cause the symptoms because it will help you in later years.
