    Default painful pimples?

About a year ago I had a pimple (I think) on my labia majora that was so painful that I eventually had to lance it myself to get relief from the extreme pressure that was building up. It was incredibly painful.

It seems to be happening again -- THIS time on my minora which really makes me nervous because that is all the more sensitive. (It is a "deep" pimple.. not surface-like.. both have been like this. It has that "bruise feeling").

Is this normal? Does this happen to others? Is there a chance it is not a pimple but something else? Is there anything I should be doing differently to prevent this? I do not wash with soap "down there", only water -- wear cotton undies.. ??

Also relevent: my 3 year old niece was just treated for communal MRSA. My thinking is that if more than one "pimple" emerges I will go in to my doc -- (my sister said that my neice's condition looked like a few ingrown hairs or infected mosquito bites -- which, to me, also seem pimple-like).

Any knowledge on this point? experience? thoughts? much thanks.

Default follow up - Bartholin cyst?

I did not get any responses -- maybe not many women struggle with this -- but I did do a little research on my own, and this is what I found -- I think what I had was a bartholin cyst. So, in case anyone else does struggle with this, I hope this info is helpful. I just did some sits-baths, and it helped a lot. I did not have to lance it this time -- but my mom, who is an RN, said that sometimes women do have to go in and have these cysts lanced by a MD.

"Bartholin gland cysts and abscesses are common problems in women of reproductive age. Although the cysts are usually asymptomatic, they may become enlarged or infected and cause significant pain. Often the clinician is tempted simply to lance the cyst or abscess, since this technique can be effective for other common abscesses. However, simple lancing of a Bartholin gland cyst or abscess may result in recurrence. More effective treatment methods include use of a Word catheter and marsupialization, both of which can be performed in the office." (http://www.aafp/afp/980401ap/hill.html)
