Infections are common. Probably every woman gets one at least once in their life and most get several. Strep bacteria among others are everywhere. You come in contact with dozens if not hundreds of different bacteria like this on every surface and bit of dirt everywhere and anything can upset the balance that keeps them away. I have an infection right now just because I took antibiotics for wisdom tooth removal. Your body has bacteria living in it that help it to function and keep away the harmful ones. If you kill them off you actually get infections from less helpful bacteria or other pathogens. Some people get infections just from having their period or using certain types of tampons or pads. Some get them if they don't change underwear more frequently than most. Yeast and bacteria love warm moist environments. I get them easily from oral sex because of bacteria found in the mouth. I keep medication on hand just in case so I can have oral sex without worrying.

Really it's something everyone experiences for what often seem like the silliest reasons and no one talks about it.
