Default Swelling above pubic bone, irregular periods, normal ultrasound

    Hi everyone,

I'm so frustrated and really hope that someone can help me. About 2.5/3 months ago I noticed that I had some swelling above my pubic bone (about 2inches below my belly button and right above my pubic hairline). I only noticed it at first b/c when I bent over it felt like there was something in the way. One of my other symptoms have been irregular periods. It was always a 28-day cycle, never varied, and for the last 3 months it has become shorter and shorter and now it's down to 22 days. My breasts have been very sore and I'm so tired that I can barely function. I've also had an upset stomach most days. I spoke to a doctor who referred me for an ultrasound and besides having a heart shaped uterus they said everything was normal. I went in to see a doctor again today for some answers (new doctor from the one I had before as he was just there temporarily) and he was so unhelpful. He wouldn't even examine me to check the swelling for himself and said that since the ultrasound was normal maybe it was just constipation or pre-menstrual bloating! He was so blase and rude. He literally acted like I was bothering him with this petty little problem and that I'm a hypochondriac.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause of the swelling and the other symptoms might be or maybe have experienced something similar? The swelling is getting progressively larger. The best way I can describe it is like a very early pregnancy bump but much lower than it usually is.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I don't know, it sounds a little like a hernia. Why not see a family medicine doctor rather than a Gyno? Do you have copies of your ultrasound? Thing is doctors are specialised and may not look beyond their specialty, and something like an ultrasound is limited.

My ex had a hernia surgery and kept going back to the surgeon telling him that it felt like there was something in there. They did a couple ultrasounds without finding anything. I finally got the surgeon to tell him to go see our family doctor who refered him for more in depth testing and they found a grapefruit sized tumor. The ultrasound just didn't show what was there.

Thank you so much WildChild. I am going to see a family doctor tomorrow and she's female as well so I'm hoping that she won't just write it off as 'female problems' like the other doctor did. I have noticed when I researched my symptoms online that hernia was common in the results. I was also working out a lot a few months ago so maybe I have one and didn't even notice because I immediately thought with the other symptoms that it must be a gyno issue. I wonder if a hernia could affect your period? - Sorry if that sounds really ignorant but I don't have very much medical knowledge.

Thank you again for your post. I really appreciate it.
