January 5th, I went to the GYN because my vagina was swollen. When I say swollen, I mean the inside, i couldn't even get a tampon in. She looked and prescribed me Terasol 7 night treatment for a yeast infection. Well, 7 nights came & went and I was still swollen. I called the GYN back and they called Fluticasone cream into the pharmacy. Well, I knew that wasn't going to help, You can't insert that into your vagina!
SO! I changed GYNs. I went and she done a wet slide and diagnosed me with Bacterial Vaginosis with a couple of "active yeast" so she prescribed me Cleocin 3 night ovule treatment. Well, I was like Whew! Answered prayer..WRONG! I called back and the nurse told me to take Baking soda sitz baths, so I did for 2 days, and called the office back and she acted like i hadn't given it time to work..I asked for another appt with the MD this time. I went there last week and he said I still had a ton of Bacteria, and prescribed me Bactrim DS BID xs 7 days. I am on day 5 and i still have the swollen vagina. I am wondering now if I have another yeast infection because I am starting to itch a little. I've read about people have "stinky" discharge and pain, but I am just SWOLLEN. I don't understand. This has been going on for over 1 month now, PLEASE HELP SOMEONE! I dont want to keep getting ABT for they are NOT working!
Being swollen means there is an active infection occurring. Infections to do not disappear quickly, antibiotics can take upwards of a week or to fully work (again infections are evil buggers and can take a long time to rid of) and even then the ENTIRE prescription must be finished in order to fully get rid of any bacteria it was targeting. The baths are recommended to simply help with the uncomfortable itching or pain from swelling, they will not eliminate the bacteria. All you can really do is take the antibiotics, have the baths, and check in with the doctor if the problem still persists after the recommended treatment time (ie prescription length).
