You can catch chlamydia through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex. It can also be passed on if you share sex toys and don’t wash them. Chlamydia has nothing to do with how clean you are, it is an STI. Also, You can’t catch chlamydia from kissing or sharing facilities, such as toilets or towels, with someone who has the infection.

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease. It can as Little.Chuck says be caught through unprotected sexual activity. It can be asymptomatic (in your body for a long period of time before there are any symptoms) and this stage can be months to years. It can be active, meaning there will be obvious signs of infection, and if left un-treated can cause many medical problems. Either you or your boyfriend could have had this prior to the two of you being in a committed relationship and it could have been asymptomatic until recently. If you have been tested previously during this relationship and the tests are negative (you didn't have it) but suddenly you come up positive and have chlamydia, then I would suspect that either your boyfriend has had it for a while (and he needs to be treated) or there has been other sexual activity outside of your relationship. In either case you both need the services of the doctor.

There is no need to feel dirty -- sometimes things just happen. The main thing is that you both be treated as it can be passed back and forth. If one of you were a carrier from a previous relationship, it would indicate that open and honest communication take place and perhaps you both should be tested for other STD's. If one of you contracted this through an indescretion during your relationship, then an entirely different discussion should take place and you both should be tested for other STD's as well.

I would suggest being very careful when it comes to accusing anybody of anything.

As was mentioned prior, Chlamydia can be asymptomatic for extended periods of time so you have no idea when you contracted it and neither will he.

What's important - IMO - is that you both get tested for all STDs together, have the physician release the information to you when you are together in the same exam room (the two of you and the physician or nurse), then get treated for whatever comes up.

Chlamydia is not something you want to ignore. You want to treat it as soon as you can.
